ZachTheZip
I prefer to think that the football ineptitude has finally takes its toll and that he's taken to hallucinating optimistic Zips fans to keep his sanity.
jupitertoo
DISGRACEFULL!!! How can TW and Dr Proenza let this go on? Again one has to wonder what if we had spent the 80+million we spent on the Info and the Stile fieldhouse and built an arena instead........... TW is one thing, but Dr Proenza seems like he does not care. That's what disappoints me the most. At this point, he needs to show his face to what Zips fans there are and make a statement of some sort. In fact, he should be standing at the Infocision entrance this Saturday personally thanking all those who show up. Hiding is not leadership.Dr. Proenza runs a very complex, $500 million enterprise whose mission is education, not athletics. I would be very disappointed to see him take an active, daily role in managing the football program. He leaves that to his AD. If has is unhappy with the manner in which the AD is handling his duties, he should fire him. But to expect him to stand at the gates on Saturday and apologize to fans? Not going to happen. Dave in Green
Skip, I agree with your observations. I think Moore deserves an opportunity to demonstrate what he can do against a weaker team. Nicely had his share of opportunities against weaker teams and produced mixed results. Moore produced reasonable results against Cincinnati's 2nd and 3rd stringers with the game out of reach. If he can perform that well for a whole game against VMI, then he is at least comparable in performance to what we've seen in the past from Nicely in certain games. It may turn out that Moore will never be any better than Nicely in terms of producing results with the teammates they have to work with. Or, given a similar opportunity, maybe Moore will turn out to be better or worse than Nicely. I don't know how to accurately gauge that right now based on what I've seen from Moore's performance in his first three D1A games against three clearly superior teams.I'm truly interested in the thoughtful opinions of others who may know more and see more than I do. That's why I asked the questions of akron football. I don't know whether or not his opinions are based on something I've not seen or don't understand. If they are, I'm more than willing to listen to anyone's thoughtful explanations and try to improve my knowledge.
gozips19
Thoughts from my Cincy visit.First off I had a blast! Took in a Red's game on Friday. The park is very nice and I love how open it is. A little too small for my taste but that is made up for in the food and crowd. Had a big red and a local German beer. Lots of Brewers fans there and they are awesome! Die hard fans that love to party. Also took in the Oktober fest downtown after the game on Saturday. They draw over 500k to the fest over the course of the weekend and it was fun. Still liked the Cleveland fest but you can't beat tons of people walking around with boots filled with beer!Cincy's campus was a little nicer than I remember from the last time I was there (about 8 years ago). The campus reminds me a lot of Syracuse but a little less hilly. Due to the Oktoberfest there weren't any hotels in downtown Cincy so we stayed by the airport (in Kentucky) and that turned out to be a blessing in disguise. We were able to take the bus downtown and then transfer over to campus. Worked out very well and was by far the cheapest option. We started at a bar called Uncle Moes and that was a true blue college bar. Most of the staff were college kids and they were still drunk from last night! Think Bob's or Joe's before they were torn down. Also hit a bar right next to the stadium and ran into some zips fans.Everyone there was super nice and really respectful of Akron. Most would say "Didn't Akron used to be good" and "I hope you are able to turn things around quickly" Many referenced the last time Akron played Cincy at Akron with Akron coming up just short. On to the game:Dr. Z you asked me to pay close attention to Clayton Moore and the Wide outs. I did and I have mixed feelings about him. I can't knock him on the fumble as he was trying to make a play. The first pick 6 I think is a case of him thinking he could make an out from the far hash. The second pick was almost the exact same throw. He has to learn from his mistakes and can't make that throw. I still think he has more to offer than Nicely as he looks just like the same from last year. Looks the part but has no touch and no feel to the pocket. Moore can make things happen and the team responds to him more than Nicely. With that being said it doesn't matter who the QB is until the line improves. Too many times were you see no push on running plays and blown assignments leading into the quarterback getting killed. I don't think there is an answer for the line this year. I expect better results against the bad teams and poor results against the good teams.Way too many drops by the tight ends and wide outs. Fleming gets open but either has poor hands or it's a lack of concentration. Haven't seen enough of him to figure that out. Price also had a big drop. These could've lead to potential points in the first half. Since I am more optimistic by nature I'll now move on to the second half. Granted Akron played against the 2nd and 3rd string but they were able to win that half and make some plays. I was really happy they went back to Moore and he showed something by hitting on some big plays. Jawon is a big play back and will keep getting better. Good vision and good speed for his size. He's gonna be a good one. I tried to play attention to other freshmen and Ford, March, and Williams all stood out. When watching this team play I have tried to keep things in perspective. They've played 3 teams that are much better than Akron and they have no chance in those games right now. They are playing 12 true freshmen and a lot of young players. They have shown flashes and as they get bigger the team "should" get better. These next two games are huge for the team and the fans. Win both and the players continue to buy in and the fans start to relax. Lose both or one and it could get ugly. Very interested to see how VMI goes. I'll be on the field so I'll try to add more next week. Let's hope the team builds on the second half.Cap if you can add the following beers if they haven't been added:OTR (over the Rhine)PBRSam Adam's Summer AleChristian Moerlein
johnnyzip84
Thanks for the detailed report, gz19! You mentioned a lot of the same FR who were making some plays out there as Frenchy. I just listened to Zips live just now, and I hadn't realized that Ford got the start at safety. I like the way he hits. Can you comment on Isaiah Williams' play in the 2nd half? Does he get any pressure on the QB?Sounds like Octoberfest in Cincy is a lot of fun. I'll have to try it sometime

I'm looking forward to the day when we can analyze one QB without having to compare him to another QB on our team as a benchmark. IMO, this will cease next season one way or another. I agree with D.I.G, I would like to read more of your post game thoughts. No substitute for being able to evaluate players at the game when you can focus on just them. gozips19
Thanks for all the kind words @Jhonny84 Williams played a lot when one of the ends went out. Saw in the paper that it was Hazmie. I just noticed he was getting off the line pretty quick and was in on a few plays around the line of scrimmage. He should be a good addition. ZachTheZip
PSA- this is not an attack of anyone, just a reminderFirst off, this team isnt that far off from being good. I know a few people that are around and involved with team. Being a former D-1 FB player I know how hard it is to go to work everyday and punish your body and to show up on saturdays and get whooped. Its not fun and it never seems rewarding at the time for obvious reasons. Its even worse to know a bunch a "ignorant wanna be football players "are trashing you when you put your heart and soul into what you are doing, this is just a reminder that NONE of you know whats going on in these kids heads and coaches minds.Good to know that you're not Dr Z's hallucination.I'm not a psychic and can't read the players' minds, but I do know what when a person is pouring their heart and soul into something and it's not working out in any way whatsoever, that person begins to question things that are factors out of your control, such as the playcalling in the case of football.I honestly don't understand how before every game these players believe they can win. Its like a cult where the leader is very obviously destroying his followers with his decisions but the followers are completely blind to it and go along with it happily. Captain Kangaroo
I feel a bit better about the football team after watching Cincy toss NC State about like a rag doll last night. How'd you feel after watching mediocre Toledo nearly beat Ohio State? I'm sorry...49-0 at the half...nothing can make me feel better about that. GP1
I feel a bit better about the football team after watching Cincy toss NC State about like a rag doll last night. I saw a very below average Wake team beat NC St. I don't know if NC State plays Duke or not this year, but they may not win another game. UAZipster0305
Cincy destroyed NC State the other night. Even though Cincy got beat by Tennessee, I think they are better than OSU...best football program in the state.

Even though Cincy got beat by Tennessee, I think they are better than OSU...best football program in the state. If all of the Ohio schools competed with each other for the state title, I'd definitely have to say that they are clearly the team to beat right now.
