Doug Snyder
Since we're looking at stats post-VMI, #44 is now #23 nationally in rushing yards, with a nice 5.3 yards/carry average to boot. Speaking of Jawon, I'm trying to come up with a catchy nickname for him. How about "the A-Train"? More like "J Train". But he does not run like a train.... he has great peripheral vision and is a slasher. Or how about something from the Chisholm Trail??. I was playing off of the old, jazz standard "Take the A Train", with the A being for Akron. But like the saying goes, if you have to explain it then it probably sucks (I took some liberty with the last part). well...that changes things. I think it should be "J Train". We can use the music from your song..."J" and "A" sound a like so it will be very easy.
ZachTheZip
Alex Allen was called the A-train.
johnnyzip84
Alex Allen was called the A-train. Really? It's cool if he was. I just don't recall hearing that. AA is the one that sticks in my mind. If A-train was used before, we should go in a completely different direction.

So we should figure out something not so close to that one....but I am not good at these sort of things, lol.

Doug Snyder
Chisel -- carves through solid material such as wood, stone, or metal. That could be good. If Rossi is as good as most people think...he could be "Hammer". We could have a "Hammer and Chisel" backfield
johnnyzip84
Chisel works for me. I just noticed that Sconiers is #36 nationally in receiving yards.
Dave in Green
Hammer and chisel sounds like a great combination for a fullback and tailback who are both performing at a high level. You wouldn't want to waste a great combo name like that unless they were both performing at a pretty high level. The potential is there, though, so let's see how they deliver. MDZip
Chisel works for me. I just noticed that Sconiers is #36 nationally in receiving yards. Zach Campbell is 33rd in punting average. At first I didn't see him and I was worried he might not have enough attempts to qualify.
Dave in Green
Digging a little deeper into the ESPN stats, I see that when I mentioned there were only 117 FBS QBs listed, there are actually more. But there are only 117 listed on the "qualified" list, which I assumes means those who have a certain minimum amount of playing time. I forgot to point out that #117 and dead last on the list, behind even Zack Stoudt, is the Can't QB, Spencer Keith with a 74.2 efficiency rating. Qualified FBS QB Ratings Can't is also featured in Punting, with Matt Rinehart having the second most yardage in the country. His 1,441 yards make Zack Campbell's 822 yards look like Zack's been on vacation.

K92
Spencer Keith's play has been horrendous. If the Zips don't beat Can't this year my head may explode.

But, I'm not sad to see that he is faltering. Surprised to see that Dysert from Miami is so far down the list. Maybe these guys will all start showing better numbers now that some of the wicked non-conference games are off of the schedules.

I'm a bit surprised a stat guy like "dig" didn't dig deeper and take the punt attempts into account. 34-20 The averages are pretty close and Zach hasn't been punting lately. Isn't he hurt?? Dave in Green
@UADavid, I wasn't trying to compare the average yardage per kick of the two punters. I was just pointing out that the Can't offense is so bad that their punter has racked up a huge number of yards. As weak as the Zips' offense has appeared to us, Zack Campbell has had it pretty easy compared with all the punting Matt Rinehart has been forced to do. My point is that AJ Fox has been punting for the Zips since the second half of the Cincinnati game. Our offense has been so offensive, I'm sure Zach's numbers would also be near the top if he were still punting for the Zips. I think he's injured. Anyone? Captain Kangaroo
I'm still waiting for Cap'n to chime in with: "How come Dan Lefever isn't in the Bottom-10?" Dan's NFL "career" is all the validation I need that the guy was a good MAC-level QB who lucked into a great MAC situation...but who has no business being mentioned alongside the all-time great MAC QB's. Put him on this year's Zips team, and people would be screaming for Zach D'Orazio.

Thanks for pointing out that Campbell is injured and Fox has also punted for the Zips. Fox has six punts for 238 yards. Adding that to Campbell's 822 gives a total of 1,060 yards on 26 punts for the Zips compared to 1,441 yards on 34 punts for Rinehart and Can't. As weak as the Zips offense has been, and even counting both Zips punters, Can't still has about 30% more punts.
