Dr Z Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Hmmmmm, where should I put my money this week? Quote
skip-zip Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 I don't know how we are to figure how good EMU is at this point, because of who they've played. Maybe you can say the same for us. But, their recent history suggests that this is a very winnable game. So, it surprises me that they are a heavy favorite. I hope alot of that is simply home field advantage. Although I am not sure how much of advantage you have when we're talking about a school that might have a few thousand people at the game. Still, I think an 8 point spread against a team like that is another reminder that we're definitely still at the bottom, and will have to fight our way upward, as far as people's impression of our football program right now. Big Zip Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Well they have won two games to inferior talent, but Alabama State is at least 3-1 and Howard has one won game. They've also lost by less than us so I'm guessing that is where the extra five points comes from since home field is supposed automatically be three points. Quote
Lee Adams Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Zips are an early 8 point underdog in this key (for the program) road game. The point spread aside, this is the second part of the 'test' for the Zips this season. They flunked the first against Temple. Now they are playing another 'bottom feeder' in the MAC. EMU is a team that is playing at the same level as Akron. Everybodies 'excuse' for losing the first 3 games was that they were playing superior teams. Can't use that excuse this week. It ain't about covering the spread. If you can't beat a team like EMU then your program hasn't made much progress. There may only be 1 or 2 'possible wins' on the schedule after this week. Better win. Quote

They aren't good, but we may not be as good as they are. We can still win though, we just have to play our butts off. It's D-1A football and the players need to start playing like it is the business it is and do their jobs. Maybe the win last weekend will give them some confidence they can turn into something. Quote

Kangaroo Craig Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 EMU is crappy, but they have played slightly better against the "Big Boys". Based upon that, I would expect them to win by about 10 points. My prediction is EMU by 31-21. Quote

Does anyone know what was going on there? Our coverage stunk, the guy returning was dangerous, so they put AJ in to sky it to the up-back. The idea being the coverage would get there and they guy would have to fair catch it. (It worked once). The smart play is to squib kick the ball every time. Or just kick it out of bounds. Same field position but less risk of a game changing return. Quote

They have played 2 FCS schools, Howard and Alabama St. They gave Howard a beating. And barely beat Alabama St. EMU is coming in with one of their backs banged up (might not play), There defense is middle of the road and despite putting 49 points on Howard there offense is only ranked 8 points higher than ours. Its a MAC game between fairly even teams. I predict an Akron win 35-31. Quote

What I saw a few weeks ago against Temple was nothing short of pathetic. EMU would have to be pretty horrible to lose to us. Our offensive line cannot block and our defense cannot tackle or cover. On top of that we have a quarterback, who when not on his back or running for his life, is getting passes picked off or at the very least, batted down at the line of scrimmage. Only bright spot is the running game, but that is only as good as the offensive line in front of it. Quote

Temple just crushed Maryland (anyone argue that Maryland is not better than us?) 38-7. And that 7 was a pity 7. At least Akron scored on them when the game still mattered. I can't stand Temple, but they are very good right now. Its going to take a long time for anyone to have confidence in us. But it is not nearly as bad as it looks. You have to account for the teams we played and how experienced they are compared to us. Quote

Dave in Green Posted September 26, 2011 Report Posted September 26, 2011 Hmm, this is the same University of Maryland that barely lost to West Virginia, 37-31, and beat Miami (Fla.), 32-24 -- the same Miami that whipped tOSU, 24-6. Temple may be the best team UA will face this season. Quote

I said the first 3 games of the season where supposedly against superior teams. Temple was one of those 3. Akron couldn't compete with a good MAC team. EMU is a bottom feeder. If you don't win this one where is the progress? Quote
Zipsrifle Posted September 27, 2011 Report Posted September 27, 2011 I also think EMU has the edge, but it is just that, an edge. This is a winnable game against a comparable team. RI has been telling us how much this team is improved, and this is the game to prove it. For me to believe this, we need to play them toe to toe and come out with the W. I've sat through 14 losses in the past 16 games, You've had time to install, time to train, time to recruit. Time to get it done, Rob. Quote
