GoZips
I would stand in a blizzard to watch the Zips play soccer. Hey, I did up at Northwestern a couple of years ago. That was a brutal game. And, to lose on a wind blown fluke made the bus ride home miserable. We owe them one. But, alas, we wont get revenge this year. This is a tale of two teams going in opposite directions. Northwestern is "peaking" and the Zips are stumbling. Western Michigan used the clues put before them by other teams. They substituted freely (fresh legs) and doubled down on Maddocks. Case closed. Zips lose 2-1. A sad end to a heart breaking season.

Doug Snyder
Shouldn't the title of this thread be Zips vs. Wildcats? Yes. Wrong title. Wrong prediction. Wrong title but probably not the wrong prediction if we don't play up to our capabilities. Our inexperiance and lack of chemistry is understandable but they must be overcome quickly. Look at our schedule...the last few weeks were not pretty and that is when we all thought we would be peaking from the experiance gained during the season. Go Zips!!!!! Dave in Green
Based on recent performances, Zips lose. Based on playing up to their full potential, Zips win.

bisbee
Guess i am one of the few who thinks we win. Porter is too much of a motivator and good coach to allow another letdown. This is really what a team plays for...NCAA appearance.....regular season is all out the window now. We convert ....we win...and i look for that to happen. Any one know about internet streaming of the game? I would hate to have live stats as my only option to "see" game from Phoenix.

Bisbee, you have not been around the last 5 years. I have not seen a Zips team this confused during Porter's tenure. I have seen teams less talented, but not this disoriented. Lesser Porter teams played with cohesion and purpose not evident on this squad. I am very worried. NU looked really good on TV vs. PSU (Big10 Championship). Should Zips get this one, who knows, they may tear off a streak. But this is the match that troubles me.

Don't let anyone talk you out of your thoughts and into catching the northeast Ohio syndrome, Bisbee. We're so used to losing around here and so scared of it, most of us don't know how to support by talking about the positives in the face of some adversity. It's easier to talk about the negatives and then be pleasantly surprised when something positive happens. The Zips are going to defeat the Wildcats at home and move on to play SMU in Ampai's backyard. GO ZIPS!

I think now that hopefully Porter has things set we see the Zips perform at a much higher level. I think main problem with the offense is that we try way too much to finesse the ball through the middle rather than playing from side to side forcing the defense to spread out to cover the wings. It seems to me that the last four games also were greatly affected by tinkering with the lineup much more than prior to the wake game. I can't truly write what i think the problems are because i have a player on the team :) I think we need to let Holmes get on the ball to feed Mattocks, that is going to be the key, this tactic may even let Holmes push on forward in the hole and do what he does best......open defence's up and do some serious damage! Go Zips!

akronsoccer
We have a very talented group of guys playing at the Zips. Some how they have managed to play below their ability for more then a few games but all that means is that they are due for some wins. We're in the tournament and that's all that matters. We aren't some unseeded team, we're Nation Champions. *Currant National Champions. These guys have a lot to live up to and I think they will look fantastic doing so. Zips win 2-1. Anyone feeling some Texas sunshine? # optimism continued

bisbee
A free video stream of Thursday's soccer match will be provided through the NCAA's web site. I've provided a link below that will take you to the NCAA's online interactive tournament bracket. If you click on the Akron-Northwestern matchup you will be sent to another page that will provide the web stream and live statistics links. http://www.ncaa.com/interactive-bracket/soccer-men/d1/2011
