bUAkronG
the fact that we were still in the game is kind of a testament to how good this team could be.
The Hip Zip
Hey Valpo is a good team. They will definitely finish in the top half of the Horizon. no they are awful. they never deserved to be in this game Valpo is not awful. They may look awful with their ugly ass style of play the Drew's instill in them year-after-year, but I've seen them do this to YSU numerous times! Ever since they joined the Horizon League, every game against YSU has been like this, only we are in Akron's shoes and blow it vs. them every time! Valpo will probably fight for 4th place in the Horizon. They are a decent team and that Broekoff kid was very impressive on both ends of the floor. gozips19
This one falls on KD every bit as much as it does the refs. I've not seen him coach a worse last 5 minutes in his career here. 5 point lead with 5 minutes to go and we are trying to take the air out of the ball? What is that about? Then we have two looks out of TO's. They haven't been able to stop the dribble penetration from Alex or Q all night so what do we do? Run some ball screens for Nitro the first time and have him take an off balance shot in the lane. Second time we come with Q taking a long contested J. That is just flat out poor coaching on KD's part. Our guys on the floor didn't do a much better job all night, and don't even get me started on the refs, but the game was still there for the taking, and KD blew it for us. I agree here. You honestly think KD said lets run a play for Nitro or Hey Q jack up a 25 footer?????? You can't be serious????? no, but it's his job to organize a better play. At least one of those two times. I have no problem with the final two play calls. ball screens for your guards was the only play working all night. Nitro didn't have anything and he forced it. The play to end the game you put the ball in Q's hands. We've seen him win games like this in the tourney. He makes a go for broke bad decision and we take a L. That's on the players not the coach. The Hip Zip
why is walsh not playing more? nitro shot terrible, and turned the ball over, and no defenese. Right on the money. Nitro's been here four years, he hustles and tries his heart out. We all get that but if he's not our best 2 guard he needs to sit a few more minutes. I believe we have 2 guys that would be better than #5 at the 2 spot.
UAZip0510
the fact that we were still in the game is kind of a testament to how good this team could be. 100% agree. Despite the officiating and everything going Valpo's way, they kept fighting. When they went down 8 early in the 2nd half, they were visibly rattled and the game seemed over. This young team collected itself and fought back and somehow, despite playing 5-on-8, had a chance to win at the end. I have no problem with the Diggs three either - say they hit a two and tie it...you honestly think Valpo wasn't going to the line on their final possession? That's definitely a great spot to go for the win.

MontrealExposloveZippy
The Horizon is one of the best conferences in basketball. We should have won for sure, but Valpo does come from a quality conference (CSU, Butler) and so this is definitely NOT the WORST of losses. The Zips will be fine! Blue & Gold
Why #5 is on the floor so much defies rational thinking. +1. I didn't understand it at all. It's okay if KD keeps Brett a starter, but I would have much rather seen Walsh or Harney out there.

The two situations were nearly identical right ? Good one. It was an obvious tongue-in-cheek statement, sorry if you didn't catch that...the point remains - when a team gets blatantly screwed by an officiating crew, I refuse to say they choked. MontrealExposloveZippy
Valparaiso is a city in Chile. Those damn Chilean referees! Valparaiso, Chile and Valparaiso, Indiana. Two peas in a pod, I suppose!
RowdyZip
Just got back from the game to the hotel. I'm pretty sure my blood pressure is still at about 180/120, so I'll bite my tongue on some of these posts. Let me just say, watching this game was a joke start to finish. Complain all you want about finishing strong, but the fact of the matter is that if this game is even remotely evenly called, the Zips don't need to score in the last 4 minutes. I doubt we see officiating that bad, even in the remainder of the MAC schedule. I'm sorry, but if you honestly think the Zips were bad enough in this game to be called for THIRTY ONE fouls, you paid no attention. Fight through, blah blah blah. I know. We still had a chance to win. Great. If Valpo gets called for 10 less fouls than Akron instead of 17 less, the Zips win by a half dozen. Pick up the pieces and play a tough squad that dropped 97 in their game tonight. GO ZIPS!

mes102
yeah, you're all right...Dambrot can't coach in clutch ...talent must of been the reason we've been in 5 consecutive MAC championship games...Must be the only reason we have hype going into this season too...Because I'm sure ALL OF US can coach better than Dambrot ...seesh... Coaches can only do so much...Players have to execute...Quincy pulled a LeBron, no one was boxing out, and on and on...and plus the referees bias tonight, to only lose by 3? To a Valpo team that should of won against Arizona...

UAZip0510
I think some people refuse to play the "refs screwed us" card, no matter how bad it gets. I can understand and respect that - I just think there's certain situations (tonight) where you have to chalk it up to that. We can agree to disagree I guess. While I'm pissed and wanted that win, there's nothing we can do now. This will be a learning experience for our young squad. This is why playing tough teams on the road is beneficial down the line. I'm fully expecting a big time effort and a "W" tomorrow.
