Zipsrifle
If the "Over the Phone" part is true, then that is REALLY Bush League! At least have the decency to look the guy in the eye while you are breaking the news!

ZachTheZip
As i understand, the way it went down was that ianello and TW spent 4 hours last night after they got back from Kalamazoo going over the past season, evaluating the teams performance, and basically doing all the preliminary legwork needed to fire him. Ianello knew he was fired before he left for NY, but TW needed to wait until today to get approval from the higher-ups and make it official. That's why the phone call went out when it did. Driving home to attend. The funeral is Monday. Okay. I think the article being linked to above assumes they mean the actual funeral, but its a bit ambiguous. The drive home for it is not the same as the drive to the actual funeral.
bobbyake
TW is is drinking buddy so I doubt Ianello didn't know about it before he started his drive. The irony is TW will catch all the bad publicity for this when he's good friends with the guy.

Tom Wistrcill is taking a lot of heat, most coming from sports bloggers. https://twitter.com/#!/search/Ianello You have to wonder if someone within the department leaked the information about the phone call. zipsfan33
That was in '09 I am sure the price will go up this time around. My question is... if you post a job opening and get applicants... why is it necessary to do a national search? If we are to believe TW, he said somewhere recently that there are many interested in the job.

Do you really think Wistercill has a pulse on today's hot coaching commodities? $50,000 to keep TW out of the search loop would be the best 50k the University ever spent. ZipRoo
Here's an article that summarizes UA's options for Ianello. Good heavens, you mean the guy could actually still be lurking on campus somewhere?! Ughhh. Hey, I'm fine with Gerry Faust still around...he's a great guy and people love talking with him. But sweet mercy, Ianello?? We need to offer up some job suggestions of where UA could "place" him to work off that $300K per year. I'm thinking picking up cigarette butts at some remote satellite branch.

It might help keep our current commits and the guy is good at that when he can focus his time on doing so.

It might help keep our current commits and the guy is good at that when he can focus his time on doing so. I don't see keeping our 3 or 4 commits as a major priority. And I don't see Ianello dropping from HC to Recruiting Coordinator. Beyond that, I can't see a new HC wanting the old HC on his staff. Unless we get Charlie Weiss. As Zach, I believe correctly, pointed out, iCoach seemed to focus way too much time on recruits the likes of which our chances of landing were slim-to-none. 5 & 4-star players iCoach could easily recruit to Wisky, Alabama & Notre Dame. Naturally, however, none of these recruits would commit to UA & then iCoach was left scrambling to fill out his classes by picking up players not a single other D-1 school had offered. We had more than our fair share of those last year. Meanwhile, Toledo and Temple were stocking up with 3-star athletes. iCoach was burying us deeper and deeper with every passing month. I see what u r saying but I would probably do this if the new coach was ok with it rather than paying him for nothing.
ZachTheZip
If there's any recruit that we should be focusing on keeping, it's this guy here. Seth Cunningham's brother should also be a priority. I don't know enough about the others. In fact, I only know about two more. If we have nine recruits, five of them are not the kind that get listed to recruiting services.
