So...Anyway...

I like these guys now that Tressel is allegedly out:

Mark Stoops at FL St - but I doubt he would come since he was interviewed and passed over last time!

Ron Zook formerly of IL

Pat Narduzzi at MI St

Eric Wolford at YSU

Greg Studwara at LSU

Any chance of luring Larry Kehres himself from Mount?

Maybe Carl Pelini at Nebraska

What about Mike Belloti (former Oregon coach)?

I assume names like Kevin Sumlin (Houston) and Chris Petersen (Boise) are being considered for bigger jobs.

Dave Ragone at Tennessee Titans

Matt Campbell at Toledo

Mike Johnson at UCLA

Unfortunately for UofA, there are alot of openings this year. Illinois, Penn State, UCLA, etc...

You are NOT getting Eric Wolford. Thank You.

We've been drunk on Tressel talk for three days.

We need to sober up and think like we would have the day BEFORE Ianello was fired.

This is Akron. It's MAC football and we are the worst D1 team in the country right now. We are not going to get Nick Saban to come here.

Every great coach started as a coordinator somewhere. Then they move on to first head coaching opportunities, usually at lesser schools (Urbam Meyer at BG, Tressel at YSU, etc.).

The challenge for the selection committe will be to identify the best of the up and coming talent. Maybe we land someone with head coaching experience, but schools like Akron sometimes have to make wise investments in lesser known talent.

There is some risk, but there can be real upside too. I don't want to see us become too conservative with our selection. As long as it is not an individual decison by TW, I think the committee can find us the right guy.

I don't get people who say they would rule out anyone who has "only" been as assistant and does not have head coaching experience.

Do they realize that, under their criteria, they would have ruled out Nick Saban at Toledo, Brady Hoke at Ball State, Al Golden at Temple, Urban Meyer at Bowling Green, Gary Pinkel at Toledo, Turner Gill at UB and Bob Pruett at Marshall. All of those guys were college assistants with no head coaching experience. Each one got their first head coaching gig in the MAC. This is the cream of the MAC coaches in recent times. All assistants.

How about looking at it exclusively from an age point of view.

Would you prefer a young guy or an old guy?

Does watching 35-year-olds Shaka Smart and Brad Stevens take their mid-major basketball teams to the Final Four in the NCAA basketball tournament make you wonder what a 32-year-old hotshot offensive coordinator might do vs. a 60-year-old ex-major head coach?

Pretty intriguing stuff.

I have to add this...since it keeps entering my mind.

Since we have now made a move that will require us to pay both the departing coach and the incoming coach, how much will that affect who is hired? Is the dollar figure that we claim we can afford to pay a lower amount with the extra burden on the payroll? If we're told that the dollar amount isn't much of an issue, would we believe it?

Indians06...more like DebbieDowner06.

Truth is, the Canton Rep guy didn't even name his source. Not like it was a secret.

The guy is just trying to get hits to his website.

I would recommend YSU Offensive Coordinator and former Miami (OH) head coach Shane Montgomery. Let me tell you guys something, he is an offensive mastermind and has helped bring in some quality recruits to Youngstown State.

YSU led the Missouri Valley Football conference in offense this past year and was top 5 in all of FCS football.

Definitely think he would be throwing his resume in for this job, however I do NOT want to see him go!

lol montgomery already showed us he can't succeed at akron.

With talent, he has proven he CAN succeed at YSU.

Yeah, YSU has more talent than Akron. Keep dreaming.

They are a mediocre FCS team, they have as much talent as freaking VMI

I love how Zn.O has a token YSU fan that comes out of the woodwork every now and then.

I believe the internet term for these people is a troll.

I find something humorous.

A few of you on here want to hire a D-II coach with a mediocre record.

But, you scoff at the idea of hiring a current coordinator with previous D-1A head coaching experience, who finished 1st in the MAC East in 2 of the 4 years that he was Miami's head guy?

If by chance, some of you are the same people making both statements, shame on you.

Maybe you don't remember just how awful our offense was with Shane Montgomery calling the plays. The Ianello years may have overshadowed it, but there is no way he is the guy to turn the program around.

I offered my two cents. I really could have ripped on you guys about the whole Tressel-to-Akron thing, but I chose not to. I can assure you YSU will not only be a playoff team and make a run for a title next year, but Montgomery will be a hot commodity in coaching circles.

And I would just love to see how you guys would do up in the FargoDome against North Dakota State. We beat them in week 10 when they were 9-0 and #1 in the country. Of course we blew it a week later by losing to 1-9 Missouri State. Had we won that game, we would have been playing at noon on ESPNU vs. James Madison.

Hope we can meet again on the playing field one day, but until then, we will have to duke it out in recruiting.

Best of luck in your coaching search. To be honest with you guys, there is no reason you should not be able to field a winner in the MAC with those facilities you have. In my eyes good coaches help, but great recruiters can do wonders. I think that is the way to go for you guys.

Paul Winters is 33-13 in the past 4 seasons, 19-5 in his last two, and currently competing for the national championship. If that's mediocre, I'll take mediocre. Compare that to Shane Montgomery's recent coaching records and you'll see the absurdity of the statement.

Why Akron and Youngstown State don't have a home-and-away rivalry game scheduled every year is beyond me. The geographics seem like a no-brainer. Why are we wasting our time with VMI or those other dinky school non-conference games, when we could be playing a solid program with Tressel-tradition 50 miles to the east? Did we stop scheduling YSU because Faust seemed to lose to them so often? Someone explain this.

When you're floundering as badly as the Zips program, it seems like a new rivalry/tradition game, much like the Wagon Wheel, would be something 'special' on the early schedule each season. It's also a close school, so people could freely travel back and forth. Zippy, get on this...will ya?
