ZachTheZip
Regardless of who the head coach ends up being, there are some people who I would love to see on the sidelines working with our players. I would want to see: QB Coach - Luke Getsy, current QB coach at D-II Indiana (PA) OL Coach - LeCharles Bentley, former NFL Pro-Bowl player, currently looking for a job after resigning from his radio show Anybody else have some names? I'd take Getsy, but LeCharles is a HUGE buckeye homer. I followed him on twitter for a little but on Saturdays it was unbearable. But he was on ESPN Cleveland so being obnoxious about OSU is something they're known for sadly. But I think our OL coach, WR coach, and DC are the most important hires we will have. The key to rebuilding this team is to focus on defense and the OL. Just give the QB, whoever that may be, time to throw and our RB's space to run. Defense keeps the opponents off the board and everything else will fall into place. I know it's harder than it looks, but hopefully we can bring in a head coach with some connections and can bring in some "steals" for assistants. Since I don't think the HC will be anyone to get excited about...
ZachTheZip
Jim Tressel is a huge Buckeye homer, but we were considering him for the head job, where he would populate the staff (and the stands) with even more huge Buckeye homers. We need somebody on the sidelines that can create some excitement for Joe Akron. Somebody that you tell them about and they go "Oh yeah! I know who that is. How's he doing there?" To be fair there was no chance of Tressel ever coaching Akron. It was more of wishful thinking, and when I said that last week everyone flipped out and didn't believe me. Well... But LeCharles doesn't sit well with me. I was happy when the Browns picked him up, but there were plenty of things that have happened since I don't agree with. Kangaroo Craig
What about Charlie Frye? When he was here, everyone spoke about how he was such a great football mind. Would love to see him come here and coach in some offensive capacity. I'm pretty sure he is out of the NFL now.

He was a GA here after graduating and he re-wrote a lot of Frye's records here despite playing only two years.

WR coach one of the 3 most important hires? That's kind of surprising. What makes you say that?

I think Frye could coach the Zips to solid second and third place finishes in the MAC East. After four years, we would have 19 D-1A wins and never win a big MAC game or BCS game. The Marketing Department could spend all of their time marketing him and not the program. It would be a better state than what we are in now, but not at a Getsy coached level. GP1
The next coach should have guys on his staff that are experienced in coaching the style of football he wants to play. Assistants are a dime a dozen in the MAC. As long as they can teach a player how to play and get them motivated to play, I don't care who they are. Buckzip
Funny, a guy that played at a school and a guy that coached a school for 10 years are homers... No to Luke, No to LeChuck. Just because guys played doesn't mean they would make great coaches. If that were the case, Michael Jordan should have about 10 rings from winning the NBA title as a coach. Off of the current staff there are a couple guys I would like to see stay.
zipsfan33
I know the players favorite current coach was Frisman Jackson! I think I have read some negative comments about him on here, but I do know they loved him!

How long has Getsy actually been a coach at IUP? Just this season. Too bad Curt Cignetti the HC coach there hasn't been on the job a little longer at IUP. This was his first year. IUP went 7-3. He was on Nick Saban's staff at Alabama for quite a while. He was also on Pitt's staff at different times. His dad,Frank was a legend at IUP. Has a solid pedigree. Might at least be worth a call. He might bring Luke with him. Recruits same area as Akron. Western Penna,Ohio(there are some Ohio kids on the team) etc.

I think I have read some negative comments about him on here, but I do know they loved him! I heard that, too. He earned a lot of loyalty in very difficult circumstances. I will be sorry to see him go.
Lee Adams
Getting a good chuckle out of all this activity on the site the last week or so. First its the Tressel thing. Then all kinds of names are being thrown around as if it would be possible to get some of them to even pick up the phone if Wistrcill called. Akron is not a plum job right now. Nice facilities, but coaches are also going to look at WHO THEY HAVE TO WORK FOR. They are also going to look at recent history to see which way the program is trending. They are going to look at quality of life in the Akron area. If they have families that and money will be important especially if they have to uproot kids and have a wife possibly give up a job. There are going to be some real limitations on who will consider coming here. Maybe the AD can catch lightning in a bottle.

alexopats@yahoo.com
Were any coaches held over from the Ianello staff? Just curious if each member was let go, or if a few were invited to stay for now.
