GoZips
Dear Coach Tressel; Many, many University of Akron fans request your acceptance of the open University of Akron head coach position at this University. You, sir, are the ideal candidate. The future of Akron football hinges on getting a prime person to "right the ship.' You, sir, are that person. The University needs desperately to move up and out of the Mid-American Conference. To accomplish this the University needs a football program that is a winner, can draw recruits, fill the stadium, garner acceptance, and generate excitement. You, sir, have the skill set to make this happen. At Akron you will never be pressured to win eleven or twelve games each season. Akron is not a football mill; nor does it intend to be. Akron seeks to be a solid, above average program that is competitive nearly every season. Akron seeks to become a football program that draws a lot of interest at multiple levels. You, sir, can take this University to such heights. Gerry Faust came to Akron after several years at Notre Dame. A high caliber program similar to your Ohio State program. When coach Faust retired from coaching football he made Akron his home. While he could live in South Bend or Cincinnati he chooses to live in this community. We love him for that. At Akron you would have excellent resources. A nearly new stadium expandable to sixty-eight thousand seats. An indoor practice facility that is one of the best in the nation. A facility that you yourself desired for Ohio State. Akron also has both turf and grass outdoor practice fields on campus. A large eight thousand square foot weight room fully equipped and geared toward football. You, sir, have seen these facilities. Akron offers you a chance to "give back to the community". A community of loyal fans here in Northeast Ohio that revere you and would love to have you coach here. You can be the catalyst to re-invigorate this community. This is an opportunity to enjoy coaching football again. Do it. Fred Thomas aka GoZips and a host of others who agree with me.
GP1
With all that has happened to Tressel in the last year, I have a lot of trouble with the number of times the word "sir" was used in this letter.
2Ball
This fan does not want a liar and a cheat. I still have not heard a sincere apology for his actions and until I do, I could never consider him to me a head coach at The University of Akron. RootforRoo44
I, along with a vast majority (probably 95%) of Zips fans whole-heartedly agree with this letter.
Buckzip
"his actions" Can you be more specific? Defending his players but not reporting what happened as told to by the FBI. Those are his actions. Then falling on the sword for the higher ups that did nothing about it.
GP1
I, along with a vast majority (probably 95%) of Zips fans whole-heartedly agree with this letter. Becoming "above average" isn't something I would whole-heartedly agree with. Count me in as part of the 5%. In fact, I almost vomited when I read it....I wonder what percent of Zips fans had to hold back vomit while reading? Further, I wonder how many Zips fans were rolling their eyes so much they couldn't finish the letter? NE Ohio sports fans are so desperate, they will make fools of themselves in order to feel as if there is any possibility of hope. They love the "savior". Many see Tressel as that savior of Akron football. He could do well, but so could a lot of other coaches....In an either/or world, nobody is allowed to say that though. Dave in Green
..... It's not that you're not allowed to say it. It's that most people know better than to try to convince others that Tressel would not bring more to the football team, the university and the community than any other proven, high-level coach who would realistically consider coming to Akron, Ohio. There's absolutely nothing wrong in trying for the best even if the odds are against succeeding. It's called aiming high instead of walking around staring at your shoes mumbling "we are not worthy, we are not worthy." But if Tressel says no and UA says Tressel says no, then it's best to focus on finding and signing the next best candidate.
Lee Adams
Can we move on from Tressel...please! My goodness, don't we think if he were coming here to coach it would have been done already?
ksu sucks
I'm not sure what's worse, Northeast Ohio Sports fans or Western Pennsylvania sports fans. Both groups reek of desperation. Desperate for a distraction, that is. There's a reason that Cleveland and Pittsburgh sports franchises have such a strong fan following. Namely, the fact that both cities are a shell of their former self. Sports have become an outlet for much of the population in each of these cities. There's virtually no difference between Cleveland fans and Pittsburgh fans, besides the fact that the Steelers and Penguins actually win. So if you take away the winning franchises from Pittsburgh, you're left with a city full of aging working class heroes who seem more desperate because the only distraction from their sad reality has become less interesting. In other words, it would be just like Cleveland sports. But yeah, Tressel isn't coming here. Get over it. Funny how I remember a certain buckeye fan claiming that Tressel would never suggest "Fick" as a candidate for the head coaching position during TW's last "Ask Alvarez session"--err, national coaching search. Seems like everyone on here is now under the assumption that Tressel suggested Fickell and TW declined. Who's the idiot-- the buckeye fan or most of the posters on these forums(I'm not necessarily ruling out either)?

GoZips
Our stadium is expandable to 68,000? It only holds 27,000 to begin with... Yes. Two stages. First takes it to 45,000; second to 68,000. Don't fret. Hiring Paul Winters will cure any desire to expand.

Yes it won't be expanded any time soon, but they have a "plan" in place IF it is ever needed. I've heard that the first would included seating above the grass hill on the south side, and moving the video screen and scoreboard up above that. Guess one of the original reasons they didn't want to put a lot of work and money into the scoreboard fixture. That would easily take it over 45,000, but I'm not sure what the second phase would include. It's interesting and fun to think about, but it's one of those "if only..." dreams that most likely will never happen. Any idea where the other 23,000 seats would be? I'd assume an upper deck over the side w/o the press box & suites.
