Putting together the staff

Hauser has been hired as director of player personnel, at Illinois.

IF TRUE, these are the guys:

John Hauser

Trent Boykin

Hauser has MAC ties (NIU) and Boykin was a GA here at Akron after starring at YSU as a player. Both would help in recruiting the MAC footprint and specifically Detroit.

If this happens, I think this would this mean that some of the other rumored candidates are not going to be here. It would be a somewhat bizarre turn of events for sure.

Like who?

Hauser doesnt have to come here as the DC. As for Boykin, I dont think there was a rumor we hired a RB coach yet.

Who said anything about Hauser being DC?

Here is the list Zach worked up a little while ago:

Head Coach - Terry Bowden (North Alabama Head Coach)

Director of Football Operations - Ben Murphy (North Alabama Director of Football Operations)

Offense:

Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach - Alan Arrington (North Alabama Offensive Coordinator / OL Coach)

QB Coach - A.J. Milwee (East Mississippi CC QB Coach)

WR Coach - Jeff Bowden (North Alabama WR Coach)

Defense:

Defensive Coordinator / Associate Head Coach - Chuck Amato (Unemployed while recovering from cancer)

DL Coach - Todd Stroud (Colorado State DL coach)

LB Coach - John Pont (Miami Ohio Grad Assistant)

Safeties Coach - Mike Woodford (New Mexico DB Coach)

CB Coach - Terrell Buckley (Florida State Assistant S&C Coach)

NewZipsFan, who seems to know more about this than anyone else, indicates Pont will be on offense, not defense. I only see positions for RBs and TEs left. I doubt Boykin and Pont would be needed for both RBs and TEs in the spread.

Edit: scratch Hauser. ImAZipFan is correct. He has been hired by Illinois.

Yeah. Scratch Hauser.

I heard his name mentioned in a "he's leaving, too" way when Boykin was mentioned. I assumed they meant they were both leaving together to come here. Guess not.

But Boykin does fill a position for us, though.

Boykin has a lot going for him. He coached TWO, thousand-yard rushers last year, he's been at a number of places for a wide range of experience, and he should help recruit Detroit AND the Mahoning Valley. I'd gladly welcome him as our RB coach. I'm not sure where that would put Pont, unless you were right in the 1st place about him coaching the LBs. We still need a special teams coordinator and possibly TEs coach.

Staff is complete.

The list of assistant coaches include Alan Arrington (offensive line), Jeff Bowden (special teams coordinator/outside receivers), Trent Boykin (running backs), A.J. Milwee (quarterbacks), John Pont (recruiting coordinator/inside receivers), Todd Stroud (defensive line) and Mike Woodford (safeties).

Added to the staff as director of operations was Ben Murphy, while John Grieco has come on as the program's strength and conditioning coach.

Boykin is on board :thumb:

Brother Jeff will have special teams.

Does the omission of "LB coach" from this list mean the Amato will have linebackers in addition to his DC duties? Is there even a remote chance Okruch was reassigned to LBs?

Here is a bio on our new S&C coach, from the La-Monroe web site.

It's great that Akron has completed its staff and that Bowden is going to be able to keep his old ties. My big concern is, who is going to recruit the Midwest? Almost all of these hires are "good ol'" boys from the Southeast. Akron needs bodies right now and it's going to take time to get connections in Ohio and Pennsylvania.

From what I have heard from a reliable HS coach that met with TB this week, TB plans on centering his recruiting within a 75 mile radius of Akron.

They have already been all over the state of Ohio. Don't forget that Coach Amato is from Easton, PA, and Coach Bowden grew up, and went to college (and played) at WVU. John Pont is from Ohio - if you read the release, his grandfather was the John Pont who coached at Miami, Yale and Indiana - still very well known and respected name in that area. And come on guys -- do you really think its going to be difficult for Terrell Buckley, or anyone on "Coach Bowden's" staff to get in ANY door?

Depends on whether the Little Caesars Bowl gets 1st pick or not :D

BTW, I have it from a dadgum good source that Coach Amato will also coach the linebackers :thumb:

Of course he will coach the LB's.... who else in the country could do it better???

Coach Bowden is the Offensive Coordinator - and he will call every play; with great input from his eyes in the sky (Jeff) and on the sideline from Alan (Tank) Arrington and A.J. (a nice little tidbit that was missing from the brief bio is that AJ was the QB coach at East Miss. College - and they just won the JC National Championship while their QB set all sorts of records!).

Not even two weeks later, the S&C coach has left to accept the same job with the Oakland Raiders.
