Vintage Miami/Akron game. After a year of speeding his tempo up a little bit Charlie Coles apparently has recovered from whatever head injury lead him to do that, as Miami made it a grind it out half court possession game. Thank god for Q tonight. That 3-4 minute stretch late in the second was as good as I've seen Diggs play since he's been here. Walsh had a nice game as well, and Harney did a few nice things with his minutes. Otherwise not a lot noteworthy tonight.

Ohh, and as an aside, did anyone see the Frauds, I mean Bobcats get handed a 10 point loss on the road by Bowling Green?

Glad we were able to pull that out. Not sure where the "BIG GUY"s head was tonight...he didnt look like he was in it tonight. Looks like I'mma have to make a "special" trip up.

But we are sittin here watching the Buffalo vs Can't game, while listening to Steve French...guess what...Buffalo is up 64-62....with 33.4 sec to go...AND the Bobkitties LOST TOO!! It's a good night in MAC basketball....

I think we'll look back at this as a key point in the season, because it's the 1st close win of the year. This team NEEDED to show they could win a game like this. Zeke will have better offensive numbers down the road, but it's great to see him still making a difference at a key point in the game on a night when he wasn't scoring much. Go Zips!!!! Keep it going!!

Can't LOST!!!...OU LOST!!!!!..ZIPS WON....HHhaaaaahhhahahahaaa....Zeke did have the pivotal block near the end of regulation...ur right Johnny84...Zeke will have better offensive games down the road.

BG beat OU by 10.

Can't is down 2 at Buffalo.

Stats from the OU/BG game:

Rebounding:

Ohio - 26

BG - 34

Ohio shot 4/20 (20%) fromt he point land, taking over a third of their shots from behind the arch.

Ohio lost by 10 despite getting 15 steals and turning BG over 20 times.

5'6" Dee Brown for BG had 4 rebounds while OU's "best big man" Ivo Baltic only grabbed 3.

I hate to sound like a broken record, but I am not impressed at all by OU. Not saying they can't get hot on any given night from 3 point range and run a team out of the gym (like they did Northern Iowa), but they lack size, discipline and depth.

A concern I have is Zeke's lack of rebounding. Zero in 31 minutes! With the same playing time Tree would have had double digit boards. Doesn't look good to get out-rebounded by our guards, again. Still a very good night for the Zips.

Yeah..I said it earlier...Zeke was soooo not into the game tonight. Not sure what was weighing on him...but he was WAY OFF his game tonight. Whatever the situation...I'm sure he will work it out, work his way through it and do whatever he needs to do to help his team win..and at the end of the day....WINNING is what we need to do!!!!

Hey....is Charlie Sheen on here... :CK_brew: WINNING....

Looking at the box score, we played a pretty terrible game. So important that we won today.

Looking at the box score of a Miami game is bad for your health. Just look at the final score, enjoy, and move on. ;)

As someone mentionned earlier, this is the first time this season where the zips win a close game. I hope it will be a turning point. Watching the last 5 minutes, I was affraid I was seeing a Deja Vue of the Valparaiso game. Thankfully, it ended otherwise.

I have to give LOTS of credit to Charlie Cole. Think about it for a second, he had to prepare his team to play against a bigger, faster, and more talented team. The only winning card he had is Mavunga(sp?) and the freshman guard who got a little hot from behind the arc. He was still able the draw plays that limited Zeke's effect in the middle and put his winning cards in good positions to keep scoring. He also succeeded to a large extent in slowing down the game to eliminate the Zips speed and athleticism advantage. This guy is simply a genius

KD on the other hand seemed to be outcoached for the first 35 minutes. To his defense his players were not really helping: Zeke & Tree were not themselves. FT shooting was terrible and no body seemed interested in guarding the arc. In the last 5 minutes, it was a different story, KD put his game face on and decided it was time to finish this thing. Coming from a time out, a play was drawn for Q, taking advantage of his speed and athleticism. Perfectly executed: score. Next play, same thing, Q scores again. Third play, trying to run the same play, it breaks down, Rico saves the situation and drives it himself to score. We dodge a bullet and my wife says: Is that the only play in our book?

Next play, KD calls a time out, I tell my wife: If we run the same Q drive in the middle off screen, we're leaving...even if they score :D. Well, sure enough, It starts looking like we're running that same play, Miami's deffense thought that way too, but the play was just a decoy, and Walsh ended up with the ball behind the arc with the closest defender being a mile away. Brian swishes the 3 and Miami is toast. KD

Ugly game, but BIG win. Winning on the road in the MAC is TOUGH. Winning in Oxford has been especially tough for the Zips.

This was a typical UGLY Miami game. I love taking friends to both the K-ent and Ohio games. The rivalries are incredibly intense and the basketball is a very exciting brand. I have, however, stopped taking friends to the Miami games. The rivalry is intense, no doubt, but the basketball is just SO UGLY and NO FUN TO WATCH! I remember being a little embarrassed by the Miami game a few years ago. The Zips won the game, but it was ugly, slow & boring (boring for the casual basketball fan, i.e., my guests). Miami's been like that for years now.

Oh, and btw, I've grown so accustomed to HD, that anymore, anything less is simply uncivilized. Watching last night's game on ONN looked like watching Atari basketball graphics.

And one more, btw, Harney is going to be SICK!

I do not believe this was an ugly win as winning a close game against a very good defensive team on the road that plays a very slow offensive style that limits the number of shots.

I thought Akron tried to move the ball quickly up the court the first 5 minutes and then never could find any pace in their game after that.

Tree went from having 8 offensive rebounds at Marshall to 1. Our team only had 5 offensive rebounds with Walsh leading the team with 2 offensive rebounds. (I love having a guard that can rebound). Mavunga and the entire Miami team did a great job on the defensive boards.

Akron did a better job in crunch time at the end of the game by making their foul shots and playing great defense.

When Akron was leading by 2, Mavunga dribbled the ball trying to penetrate against Zeke. He could not do it and passed the ball outside and the the ball went out of bounds. Great defense by Zeke at the end of the game. We then make our foul shots to win this game.

This was a great win for our first Mac game. However, it was so much more fun watching VCU 10 second offense than the Miami 40 second offense. It is amazing how different the style of basketball is played by these 2 teams.

After years of watching the Zips play against Charlie Coles, I learned two things.

One, don't expect to be entertained, and two don't read anything into the results of the outcome.

Take the W, and move on...
