Bracket Buster Discussion Thread

Creighton should be on next season's schedule.

So far everything I can find about this year's match points to Iona. Since Iona currently has an RPI of 46, a win on their court could possibly move the Zips' RPI into the 40s.

I was just thinking the same thing about everything possibly pointing toward Davidson. If I had my pick I'd want the trip to Las Cruces to play New Mexico State since I think there is no way we get Murray State after St. Mary's win last night at BYU.

I now think it will be either Davidson, Iona, or South Dakota State with an outside shot at NMSU.

It's just crazy to watch the RPI numbers bounce up and down on Live RPI, where each team's RPI is recalculated the minute that a new game result is finalized.

Right after Northern Iowa lost and the Zips won, the Zips moved briefly ahead of Northern Iowa in RPI. But as the results of other games came in, the Zips dropped back a few positions behind.

Today, Iona beat a weak St. Peter's team, and Iona's RPI dropped about 10 positions.

As I type this, Iona is #54, Northern Iowa #58 and the Zips #60.

Everything still points to the Zips being matched against Iona. But since the two teams are now so close in RPI, the Zips wouldn't get much of an RPI bump if they beat Iona.

I agree, that you could go crazy trying to figure who we will be facing. I wouldn't even mind Mizz St though their RPI is below us. Other factors are considered as well and I'll tell you what, Nobody walks into those MVC arenas and gets an easy W. Iona would be a great opponent as well due to their fly up and down the floor tempo. That one would be great to watch.

When it comes down to the pairings being released tomorrow I am expecting the unexpected.

I don't know if we should be upset with any pairing. We can always hope for the best but this team lost some games they should have won earlier in this year while other teams were winning those games. This is the kind of stuff that has lead to us still being ranked below two teams we've beaten in the Mid Major Top 25.

Ultimatley I would much rather see a more name team with a significationly worse RPI than a Loyola which offers little in the way of a name. With that being said Joe Akron could care less about Iona too.

3. The College of Charleston didn’t reveal the health crisis facing coach Bobby Cremins. But if he doesn’t return to coaching, he has proven that coming back after a long respite and going from a high-profile, high major to a lower-profile program can be revitalizing. Cremins has given the Cougars’ program a national identity and plenty of pop in the Southern Conference during his tenure. His path back to coaching is one that might be repeated by others -- somebody who needed a break but then wanted to get back in and be effective when older. Hopefully Cremins will be well again soon.

Sans the health issues, this made me think of our Bowden situation.

Thanks for clearing that up. I'll give the guy credit for making the most thorough presentation of his educated guess. The Zips-Iona pairing does fit in with what I've seen and heard elsewhere.

No problem. The internet can be hilarious at times.

I think Akron-Iona makes a lot of sense and will be watching and rooting for the Zips if it pans out.

Missouri State is 20 sports below us in the RPI which is bad enough, but their record isn't that great (12-10 against D-I), which is what affects our own RPI more heavily than their actual RPI rating does. If we were going to get a team that far below us in the RPI, it's better for us to play a team with a good record and a weaker SOS.

This is a bad match-up if true.
