Rivals is showing that Ed Stockett committed to the Zips in June of last year???

http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting...bIVTrRqiCdDPZB4

I promise to learn how to shorten links - any help would be appreciated.

Yes, but that information is out-dated. Stockett is no longer a Zips commit.

After the (awful) senior season he had, the general conclusion on ZN.o was that Coach Bowden was probably just straight honest with him & told him he'd most likely never see the field at Akron. So Stockett de-committed quite early, as back in November, IIRC and was looking elsewhere (lower division). We picked up Pennsylvania QB Tommy Woodson in his stead.

So, if I am reading everything correctly, the Zips are only in the running for one juco transfer? I was hoping for a couple more to plug some holes. Perhaps some on the commit list will be greyshirts, opening up another position or two?

Ignore Rivals. They've been beyond terrible at covering Zips recruiting this year. The best recruiting coverage for Akron this year is a toss-up between ESPN and 247sports. They're on their way to surpassing the traditional Scout and Rivals sites. They're much better at tracking who commits to what school.

We should have a prep-school player or two coming in this year. Stay tuned.

247sports currently has our class rated as next to last in the country. Not good.

Recruiting services rank based on heavily on quantity of recruits. So a team that has oversigned to have 30 3-star recruits will be rated well ahead of a 13-recruit class full of 4 and 5 stars.

With our limited scholarships, there's no way we would possibly be rated as high as other MAC teams that can sign 20+ recruits, even if we have higher individual ratings.

Also, 247 is missing some of our recruits. Deontae Moore isn't listed as having verballed to us, and Stephen Ericksen (#30 Center in the country on Scout) doesn't even have a profile.

Generally, having a recruit that is top-100 at their position is a good get, considering our record the past few years.

Going through the recruting services, and adding the players that they have neglected to mark as committed, gives the following (Bold is not listed as committed, italic means no profile):

Scout:

DeAndre Adams (WR)

Logan Cox (S)

** Stephen Ericksen (#30 C)

NR David Gaydosz (unranked RB)

** Zach Guiser (#119 S)

** Dominick Hamilton (#34 C)

Keontae Hollis (DT)

** Michael Kish (#73 TE)

** Ryan Kortokrax (unranked OT)

*** Jerome Lane (#94 OLB)

** Anthony Lauro (unranked WR)

** Deontae Moore (#133 OLB)

Tyler Vaughn (DT)

** Tommy Woodson (#82 QB)

Rivals:

Deandre Adams (WR)

Logan Cox (S)

NR Stephen Ericksen (unranked C)

** RB David Gaydosz (unranked RB)

** Zach Guiser (unranked DB)

** Dominick Hamilton (unranked OG)

*** Keontae Hollis (unranked DT)

** Michael Kish (unranked TE)

Ryan Kortokrax (OT)

*** Jerome Lane (unranked OLB)

** Anthony Lauro (unranked RB)

Deontae Moore (LB)

Tyler Vaughn (DT)

** Tommy Woodson (unranked ATH)

ESPN:

Deandre Adams (WR)

NR Logan Cox (unranked S)

NR Stephen Ericksen (unranked OC)

NR David Gaydosz (unranked RB)

** Zach Guiser (#112 S)

*** Dominick Hamilton (#86 OG)

NR Keontae Hollis (unranked DT)

NR Michael Kish (unranked TE)

NR Ryan Kortokrax (unranked OT)

** Jerome Lane (#175 ATH)

Zach, I can't find hardly any information on WR Deandre Adams. What do you have on him?

And, with only 13 schollies to give, this class is shaping up nicely.

I'm still holding my breath with DT Keontae Hollis. I guess that he tweeted that he really enjoyed his visit @ U of South Alabama. Though, fortunately, he's still listed as a Zips commit. We need DT's.

My info on Adams is mostly that he committed to Akron. From what I can gather, he initially played QB but made the switch to WR during his senior season.

Look here for a little bit of info/highlights.

ESPN Recruiting shows we had a couple visits last Friday. One of them is a WR that has verbaled to Can't and the other a RB from Colerain that I've never heard of. Does anybody know anything about these 2 kids.

Mykel Traylor-Bennett is the receiver that you are talking about. He is 6'4 and 200 pounds. He flipped from Cincy to Can't and then de-committed from Can't. He was indeed here this weekend. He has offers from Can't, Cincy, Syracuse, Toledo, Minnesota, BGSU and EMU, among others. He looks like he would be a nice pickup.

The running back you are talking about is Chris Davis. He is a 3 star player on rivals and has an Akron offer. He verballed to Indiana State this afternoon.

Any chance we can get Traylor-Bennett. We can definitely use a couple good wide outs. Do we have any chance of landing any others? It looks like the decent ones all have multiple offers

According to Rivals Mykel Traylor-Bennett is only showing interest to us and Can't, but it says that we haven't offered. Who knows?
