Somebody email me later with the losing margin.

this effort is a joke. hard to believe we were entertaining the idea of an at large bid not too long ago.

I remember as a little kid watching games with my dad on a tiny little black and white TV. Whenever his team fell behind like the Zips did in the first half, my dad would get up and walk out of the room saying, "I'm going outside to work in the yard."

My dad has been gone for many years now, but akronzips71 brought back fond memories. :)

For all the flack they took for their terrible showcase games the Zips deserve some praise fir putting on a show in the second half when the bright lights were on in a prime time ESPN2 game.

Glad to help. I also remember watching Bill Bradley play for Princeton in glorious black and white on Channel 9 here in New York. That was when the NIT was the big deal.

I am so glad they woke up in the second half. Where have they been for the last 3.5 games?

THIS is the team we were loving until the fall.

Harney looked horrible, AA was amazing, Zeke played the game of his life and we lose if he fouls out early.

BUT

The slam by Tree looked unreal even on TV. It was at superspeed!

He is going to be some factor for the next three years.

How can any Zips fan that has payed attention this season be surprised by a less than stellar first half followed by stellar second half? :ninja:

That's true. Usually down by 8 at the half means we have them right where we want them.

I've decided to invest in a Treadwell jersey this offseason.

Its just annoying seeing this team not playing to their full potential. Could be much better if they could ever put a full game together.

Tree seems to be figuring out what Akron basketball is all about. His attitude on and off the court look like a guy who is understanding what it takes to earn minutes and be successful in this program. Been very impressed with his performances over the last 10-12 games. Give him another offseason to work on some things (defensive rotations, free throw shooting) and the sky is the limit for this kid. Now if some of that would just rub off on Harney.

At the beginning of the season, Harney was seen as a gifted prodigy and Tree appeared to be a slow learner. Tree continued to steadily progress all season while Harney seemed to hit a wall. I think it's just a case of two young players growing at different rates.

Harney still has the potential to be a high-level player. But he's going to have to develop the right mindset and work on his attitude and game the same way Tree has. Hopefully the two of them will stick together during the off-season and continue to share good habits with each other.

Tree and Harney together have the potential to help keep UA at the top of the MAC for the next three seasons.

Harney plays like he is still in the schoolyard where he is the biggest and best player and he can just go to the hoop at will.

He needs to learn that he is NOT the biggest player, at this point NOT the best, and Div I hoops is a team effort.

I think what you see is that Coach D has simplified it down for Tree. Get rebounds and post up on the blocks and we will run a few plays your way. Tree has bought in. Harney is fighting Coach still a little bit if you ask me. Not willing to make the sacrifices Dambrot is asking for. Tree has bought in and it just looks like Harney is on the fringe. I have faith in Coach and Harney. They will figure it out.

I disagree. What I see is a young guy who, quite rightly, sees himself as a scorer even though he's been struggling. The problem is that he's continually choosing the wrong pathway out of his funk. If and when he strives to play solid defense FIRST, his struggles on the offensive end and his frustrations over less floor time will take care of themselves, and he'll become the scorer he perceives himself to be. You gotta remember, though, that to Harney, that remedy is totally counter-intuitive. But, with input from the coaches and his teammates, I have to believe the light bulb is going to click on one of these days, and this kid is going to be something really, really special. Let's hope it happens sooner than later.
