Valpo Zip
Surrounded by a sea of scarlet and gray the whole day at work, right before the beginning of the game I was saying to myself: Why do I root against OSU. What do I have against them? It only took 5 minutes for me to get the answer from my TV screen. The CBS sideline reporter: with those teams being only 100 miles away from one another, we were wondering why they played each other only once in the last 50 years. The CBS color commentator: I was asking myself this same question. The CBS sideline reporter: well, we asked the Cincy AD and he said that he would welcome the opportunity to play OSU any time and thinks that it will be great for both programs. But when we asked OSU's AD his response was: "We are happy with our existing out of conference schedule." Thank you for the reminder Gene Smith. Win or lose, OSU SUCKS! tbozeglav
what OSU's AD really meant to say was "We don't want to put our program at any more of a risk of losing a game than we absolutely have to"
UAZipster0305
what OSU's AD really meant to say was "We don't want to put our program at any more of a risk of losing a game than we absolutely have to" It's more like, until we consistently lose to another in-state program, we own the Ohio fan base, and if we don't schedule them, we can't lose. Sickening. Says a lot about where MAC football's level of competitiveness is too. Even though arrogant supremacists, I can handle the OSWho alumni fans. It is all the casual fans and especially the OSWho fans who attended other Ohio D-1 schools that I can't stand. Sadly, my brother is among the latter. I hate that THE Ohio State University crap too. I will never pass up an opportunity to root against OSWho. They are a very small step below Can't among schools I can't stand.
skip-zip
what OSU's AD really meant to say was "We don't want to put our program at any more of a risk of losing a game than we absolutely have to" Only a typical Ohio State honk could interpret that to mean anything else. I laughed hysterically when I heard the remarks he made. Losing to Ohio schools would put their bandwagon fanbase at risk, so they prevent that by not scheduling them. Hilarious. And they don't care if they admit to it !!!
scottditzen
I think part of the reason Cincy lost was because they had the worst uniforms I've ever seen.

I heard the same thing...ironically it was right after I had just finished explaining to my wife why I hate OSU. Perfect timing. I was wondering if I was the only person who heard that message loud and clear!

tbozeglav
Ohio State refuses to play us as well. We've tried...hard. they'll only play us in football because we're a cheap W on their schedule of cupcakes to prop them up. I "got into it" with my uncle on facebook about this topic. It was all in good fun and no harm was ever made, but it showed all the glaring issues with the bandwagon OSU fan who falls back on them being "Ohio's School". He kept emphasizing the "THE", to which I would retort that its THE University of Akron, and that when I called OSU overrated (are they anything else), that we weren't talking about soccer. Then when I asked him where his beloved sweatervest was, all he could say was "good luck with tressel with the NCAA all up in his business HAHA". Sigh.... so naive. The sad part is that the TRUE fans, the ones who went to school there and those who are really in tune with how things really go are the tolerable ones. I can respect them. Its the blind sheep who piss me off.
LZIp
*little brother syndrome* lets be real. OSU isnt afraid to play us. They played Kansas, Duke, and Florida non conference this year.

Hilltopper
*little brother syndrome* lets be real. OSU isnt afraid to play us. They played Kansas, Duke, and Florida non conference this year. Hell yes they are afraid to play us! If they lose to any of the teams you mentioned, their fan base would say "Ok, they are good programs". If they lose to the Zips or any of the other Ohio schools it would put a dent in the notion that they are way better than any other program in the state. By not playing us they can continue to claim the status as THE Ohio State University.
GP1
In any business transaction, there has to be a win/win for both parties. In football, we play OSU and our win is the million dollars they pay us. Their win is an easy win and a packed stadium. In basketball, their chance of losing is greater so they don't get the easy win. OSU doesn't need the zips on their schedule and we don't need them on ours. If they were to win, they would get something in return...talking points with their recruits. If they lose, it's "OK, they are a good program." Football, right now, we don't matter, hence they schedule us. Basketball, on the other hand, we could get them on any given night, therefore it is tougher to get on the schedule because they have so much more to risk with a loss.
