ZippyRulz
(besides Massillon & McKinley) safer than grass, stands up to many more uses... http://www.the-daily-record.com/local%20sp...ect-on-schedule
Hilltopper
That is not a new trend. Green HS put in turf over 5 years ago. Before turf, the stadium was used for about 20 events a year. Now there is something going on there about 150 days a year. I think Green only played 3 games on grass last season, most of the Suburban league schools already have turf. Spin
IIRC Wadsworth is the only Suburban League school to still have grass. And the only reason they haven't switched yet is because some of the board refuses to put a corporate name on it or the stadium.
ZippyRulz
Oh, wow...being out of the area I didn't realize that many schools already had it. I guess it's the smaller & rural schools playing catch-up now. The savings on mowing/aerating/fertilizing/painting/repairs also helps to offset some of the cost. Makes me wonder what % of Ohio H.S.'s are already on synthetic. Now I'm also wondering if any Ohio teams were playing on artificial turf before the Zips (of course it wasn't such a great thing back in the "rug on cement" days). K92
Ashland installed artificial turf a few years back. I'm not sure how many schools in their conference have made.the switch.

You save on maintenance, and you get to use your facility a lot more. JV, middle school, youth leagues, soccer, lacrosse. Copley has/had a semi-pro football team. When I played we weren't allowed to walk on the field unless it was a varsity or JV football game, and even then the grass was gone halfway through the season. As soon as he can find a way to get the field shipped to Pittsburgh without the trucks having to pay turnpike fees, he'll do it.

johnnyzip84
Ambassador to Ireland. An excellent, humorous, indirect, and true answer all at once. Well done
