ZachTheZip
I'm just wondering if anybody knows how season tickets are selling this year? Also, how many were sold last year? I have to imagine that sales are up, but I would guess it would not be by too large an amount. Fans are cautious and most people in the area have been continously burned by their sports teams to the point where they're in a perpetual wait-and-see mode. Renewals are up DRASTICALLY. It is great news all around. The entire staff at Akron is doing a phenomenal job.
Zipgrad01
I am not sure about season ticket sales, but one of the more promising things that I have heard about is the interest of the students. I work with an Akron co-op and he stated that student interest is the highest in years and to expect a huge student turnout for the home opener. InTheZone
I just hope the students are football-intelligent enough to realize it might take a season to undo all the damage of the last few seasons, and don't immediately turn sour when we, in all likelihood, get our asses kicked in the season opener. That is my concern as well. I have a feeling that if we get smoked the students will have the "oh they still suck" attitude and stop going to games. Big Zip
I was able to move my seats down 10 rows....with that I woudl think renewals are down.
NewZipsFan
I was able to move my seats down 10 rows....with that I woudl think renewals are down. I can tell you with certainty that renewals are already about double the % they were all of last year. NEW season tickets sold are also already more than double the total of last year. Roo
I did not renew my season tickets....just not worth the cost. With my job, I have to work on Saturday out on no where and Im never able to find anybody that wants to go. Plus my jobs gives tickets away for free, so it makes zero sense to buy season tickets. I just can't imagine why ticket sales would be up, they don't have a product worth seeing, and how much of an impact has Bowden made outside of the Zips circle? We already know Akron and the surrounding area does not support anything related to Akron Football...why would that change now?

Big Zip
@NewZipsFan percentages are misleading.... If 50 out of 100 renewed in 2011 for 50% and then 33 out of 50 renew in 2012 for 66%...which would be significant but still be down considerably. With that in mind I'm hopeful new ticket sales are significant because by the end of last year things were really bad.

Another example, to get us closer to the "almost double" claim. Would be that 45 of every 100 renewed in the previous year for 45% and 90% of those renewed for this year. So saying the renewal rate is about double the previous rate may be a really positive way to say an additional 10% decided to bail out this season. One needs to also factor in how many new season tickets were sold last year. Actual number of tickets sold would tell a more acurate story. I can only get to one game a year coming from Iowa. Yesterday, I was able to get 2 seats on the 50 yard line for the Miami game, but there were only 6 more seats in the en tire section 110. The MAC presents an exciting product. The talent might be a bit short of the Big Ten or SEC, but the competitive ballance produces excitment. If we move into the competitive mix, I think the fans will come. What would you rather watch? a 65 to 64 nail biter or OSU 65 IU 3?

We have two engineering co ops where I work, one of which played HS football, and neither one has mentioned anything about zips football

NewZipsFan
As I said above --- the # of NEW season tickets already sold is approximately 2x the amount sold at this time last year. We're talking about retention rate when talking about season ticket renewals. We can only "renew" season tickets that were purchased last year. If we have already renewed 85% of the season tickets from last year - that is TWICE the retention rate of the past two years. This staff can't control the fact that there were fewer season tickets to renew to begin with

This staff can't control the fact that there were fewer season tickets to renew to begin with AHA. The 85% renewal rate adds some new information to the equation. As long as the number of new season tickets purchased exceeds the number of non-renewals associated with the 15% non-renewal rate, that's a good thing. I'm hoping the percentage of season ticket holders who actually attend the games is up dramatically this year.

I'm hoping the percentage of season ticket holders who actually attend the games is up dramatically this year. I'm confident that the renewal rate will end up higher than 85% - as that number is several weeks old already. And I'd also bet that the total number of season tickets sold will be significantly higher than last year and 2010 when all is said and done. Understand -- we are still 3 weeks away from the opener - and those approx numbers I threw out there were a few weeks old. Things are trending very, very well. skip-zip
Don't make me compare percentages, or do any other math. Does anyone know..... Number of Season Tickets sold in 2011............................and the number of season tickets sold so far for 2012. I think the original post was a simple enough question. Does anyone have this knowledge? I don't, and I haven't asked.

Zipmeister
Does anyone have this knowledge? Yes, more than one person has this knowledge, but if they aren't telling NZF, they aren't going to tell us. There is a remote possibility George can get the number, but it might be off the record. No sense discouraging potential season ticket buyers with a low sales figure.
