Zipsrifle
Terry played today NOT to lose instead of playing to win. What happened to that offense that could put points on anybody? We move the ball 65 yards from the 1 inch line in the fourth and punt when we are down by 8? Pathetic!
K92
Zips win convincingly, 42-21. I think Jawon Chisholm comes up huge in this one.
K92
Lots of good points in this thread. As pissed off as I have been after some of the close losses this year, after I blow off some steam and vent, I know in my heart that Coach Bowden is well on his way to turning the Zips around. There has been some questioning of the second half play calling. Some accusations of being out-coached. Bottom line is that Terry took over the absolute worst team in division IA football and turned the offense into the best in the MAC in his first year. Unfortunately, that masterful job of coaching can get trumped by losing close games, resulting in being judged by a fanbase that is starving for success. Very unfair to Coach Bowden, but it goes with the territory. Still...I apologize, Coach Bowden. As much as I have difficulty being patient, I know I need to be. The wins are in the pipeline. Watching Terry's show in Mondays gets my mind right and I have to assume he works the same angle with the players. Saturday should be a good catharsis for everyone. Go Zips! KentZip
Definitely a low point in my 40 or so years of watching Zips football. The team that played Tennessee would have won today. The team that played last week in Portage County would have won today. The team that played today would not have beaten Youngstown State. GP1
How short memories are. Some years ago, UCONN came to town in their first year of d1 and beat the zips.

I think you could argue that we've only played two good halfs of football since then. The first half against BG, and the first half against Ken+. I'm pretty disappointed today. It's not a low point, but it probably erases any progress I thought we were making this season.
Dr Z
It's not a low point, but it probably erases any progress I thought we were making this season.Toledo will be a telling game. Staff has time to fix problems, get busy. I'm not going to jump off bridge just yet. Hopefully the UMass game is a bump in the road. The staff needs to put up a good fight at Toledo to keep the extreme fans on board, another stinker like yesterday, and I fear (no pun intended) it's going to be hard to get support in the offseason. Wally B
It is what it is ............. But I remain convinced that it's TB or nothing. I've seen a general sense of improvement this year, we will be better. I've seen young squads like this one grow before. That said, this sucked..... Lee Adams
Seems like Groundhog Day. We could talk about Williams having a bad game and wondering why Bowden didn't go to the bullpen. We could talk about the coaching staff not having the team 'ready' to play. They were 'flat'. We could talk about how teams have been pretty much able able to control the Akron offense even though it may run up a lot of stats. We can sit upstairs and see the plays develop and see the missed opportunities. We can talk about the defense and its problems. It seems this team has been trying to run on fumes for about a month now. But, one thing we might all see is the talent level in the program except for a few exceptions is not at a competitive level even for the MAC(duh). There may be a couple more wins next season. But,with the players who are leaving and the lack of depth especially on defense after seeing yesterday, it just looks like its going to be at least 2-3 more seasons before this program is at a consistently competitive level. You have to have confidence in TB. He has done it before. But even he admitted that he was a little surprised at the difference in talent between the Zips and the better MAC programs. P.S. Coach Bowden, you said you are considering starting Pohl against Toledo. Please don't start him. Thats a very high risk limited reward situation for the team and the player. Maybe if you need a relief pitcher again but not as the starter.

ctmjbowes@sbcglobal.net
LOL calling for the FCS again. How many years, exactly, would you like to throw down the drain? It's been 25. 25 more?
Lee Adams
We have won three games in 3 years...high risk?!? Last meaningless game of the season for Akron. Against a really athletic team possibly playing for the MAC west and/or a bowl game? COULD they win? Well it is 70 and sunny on 11-11-12 in Akron. Could get injured. Could have a really bad game and have to sit on that all winter. If TB was going to 'prepare' for next season he should have been working Pohl into games for the last month. Has nothing to do with what happened last year. But,when you make a coaching decision to start a senior QB at the front end of a long rebuilding program this is one of the consequences. footballzip
Anybody remember those fun Charlie Frye years, and the MAC CHAMPIONSHIP YEAR OF 2005! Motor City Bowl. We can get there again. TB needs to build this program from the rock bottom-up. WE NEED PLAYERS! TB needs time to build this thing. Forget about this year, its over. Coaches need to get out there and recruit there butts off. Facility's are best in the MAC, there is no reason why, we can't attract quality talent. If we can endure this, it will be sweet when things get turned around. Keep the Faith, it will get better.

Playing the Phil Savage card now huh? Love it! Who's had more fun rooting for their team in the last 20 years, Penguin fans or Akron fans? If you stop attending games, the consistent home fan base in attendance will drop from about 2,000 to 1,999 immediately, and then will grow once the team wins. You'll come back when you realize it's more fun to watch the Zips win games than to lose them.

You are just a loser if you even contemplate going back to that wasteland. No Zach, I'll be staying, but thank you. What exactly is your definition of wasteland anyway Zach? 3 wins in 3 seasons? How many ACTUAL seats are being filled week to week at that beautiful new stadium? I noticed that for yesterday's loss to UMass, ESPN couldn't even be bothered to post real-time updates for the game. I've also noticed this season that with the proliferation of college football on our FIOS television channel lineup, I can see plenty of FCS and even D-III games, but Akron football is never, ever on TV. I currently live in California and can (this is a fact) watch Mount Union more often than I can see the Zips. What does that tell you about Akron football? If the team could consistently draw 10-15K happy fans to games, and win some, would that somehow be worse than sucking for 25 years? I find it ironic that some posters here seem absolutely crushed by the notion that UA football might be less than big-time. News flash: Akron football has never been big time. Many of us were still in school not so long ago when this program was a member of the OVC. It was a helluva lot more entertaining in those days. Being a FBS doormat is no god damn fun. Witness the 300,000+ local residents who would rather rake leaves on a Fall Saturday than drive 5 miles to watch the Zips play. This D-1/FBS thing, it was worth a shot, but it's time to settle back to the program's natural level within the FCS construct. You can be angry at me for saying these things, but you can't argue the facts.
ZippyRulz
It's been 300 months in Div. 1-A; having watched some nice wins, a MACC/bowl appearance, and a dozen future NFL players along the way, I'll wait 2.5 more months to see how TB's first full-season recruiting class looks. Having said that, if he can't get good players here in the next couple years, I'll probably be following Cincinnati.

footballzip
LA zip fan, Zips game never on TV? I watch 2 or 3 a season. Toledo-Akron will be on ESPN2. Get your facts straight. STO televises a couple zip games a year. Its easy to pile on right now. We need to be patient and no we are not going back to 1-AA. We have competed and won the MAC in the near past, be patient, we will get there again.
