MDZip
Nice job George, I think that should be the Zips mantra - "Just win the whole f***ing thing"

Wally B
spot on GT! Even though we're talking about soccer has (as opposed to football or basketball) there's a huge fairness issue here that should resonate nationally. If I've read correctly, UConn had a representative on the selection committee! Not only were the zips ran #1, with a fantastic rpi, any notion of fan support that would carrry weight in a FB or BB discussion is entirely moot with one of the attendance rates in the nation. Our matches have been broadcasted on FSC, and our program is widely respected and recognized by the MLS! THere's a word for this.... SCANDAL! Ando
the zips got shafted, yeah sorta dumb column though
zen
This column needed to be written. It was said. It's on record. Now it's time to move on and play. Any carrying on about it will just sound like crying, no matter how much the injustice. It is what it is.
bUAkronG
very well written.
bobbyake
around 90% of the time an MLS broadcaster mentions a former Akron player, they mention that the player is from the University of Akron. Our program is well known and respected by the soccer media. I'm not just talking about games on matchday live, I'm talking about games on the NBC, NBCSN, and ESPN. The University of Akron has been mentioned well over 100 times during MLS games this year. UConn's coach being on the selection committee is the reason why they have a top 4 seed. fknbuflobo
the zips got shafted, yeah sorta dumb column though OK. Perhaps this is not Pulitzer Prize material! At least the local writer for the local newspaper has taken up the cause. Give credit where credit is due.

ZachTheZip
If you look at where the top 16 teams were seeded and compare that to their RPI, you end up with this: #1 Notre Dame (Big East) Diff 0 #2 Maryland (ACC) Diff +1 #3 Georgetown (Big East) Diff +1 #4 UConn (Big East) Diff +3 #5 Akron (MAC) Diff -3 #6 UCLA (PAC-12) Diff -1 #7 Marquette (Big East) +1 #8 Saint Louis (Atlantic 10) Diff -2 #9 North Carolina (ACC) Diff 0 #10 Louisville (Big East) Diff +3 #11 Tulsa (Conference USA) Diff +1 #12 Creighton (Missouri Valley) Diff -1 #13 New Mexico (Mtn. Pacific) Diff -3 #14 VCU (Atlantic 10) Diff 0 #15 Wake Forest (ACC) Diff +3 #16 Indiana (Big Ten) Diff 0 To break it down, you get the Big East collectively seeded +8 compared to the RPI. The ACC is +4. Everybody else combined is -9, with only Tulsa getting a 1-spot boost.
Dave in Green
So the NCAA is saying that RPI is a "flawed" concept (along with the coaches poll) when compared to a committee of people with special interests? The way to disprove that theory is for the people with special interests to be proven wrong on the pitch.
Aaron
I apologize if I missed this elsewhere, but why isn't Tulsa hosting their 'home' game? I realize it has been set from the time the bracket came out, but I was curious as to why that is. Also, I want to make sure that whatever reason they are using to deny Tulsa a home game cannot be applied to Akron in the future!

Unfortunately personal interests have nothing to do w/ being right or wrong. they wont care, because there's no penalty for their behavior. Except motivation for Akron!
