GP1
Article Worth a read if you are considering having your son play youth football. I have to admit. If I had a young son, I wouldn't let him play full contact football until he was at least in seventh grade. The more I learn, the more certain I become it is a danger to the kids full of almost entire risk. My school district did not have football until seventh grade and several of us managed to play college football. Kids below the grade of 7 do not have the muscle memory to apply anything they learned in pee wee league to even junior high school football. Dr Z
Maybe someone needs to do a kids test like they are doing at Virginia Tech. Pretty cool. I posted before that I think it should be mandatory that all nfl and college players wear the Revolution Speed helmet. Probably should extend to high school and youth too. Ryan Clark put the Revolution Speed Helmet on yesterday for the first time. It will be interesting to see how it works on him since 90 percent of his tackles are with his head. I mistakenly posted earlier that Ben wouldn't wear the RSH, according to the Gazette he is now doing so. Maybe he should put one around his ribs too. zippy5
Any kid that waits to play until he is in 7th grade makes it more dangerous to everyone else because he most likely didn't learn to tackle right. Double edged sword.

Double edged sword. or kids learn to tackle wrong at a younger age before they're physically ready to. And they continue to tackle the wrong way in the future. It's harder to unlearn something than to learn something new.
GP1
or kids learn to tackle wrong at a younger age before they're physically ready to. And they continue to tackle the wrong way in the future. It's harder to unlearn something than to learn something new. I think you are right. Very young kids are not able to fully understand and commit to muscle memory the lessons of how to as safely as possible play football. They also are not able to learn much at that age that is useful for when they are in high school.
