According to the AK Rowdies page on Facebook, all students are now REQUIRED to sit in section 11 on the South end of the JAR. In order for students to sit elsewhere they will be forced to buy a general admission ticket. How many of us think this will encourage more student attendance? So now in order for me to sit by my wife, who is not a student, I'll need to buy tickets for the rest of the year. Brilliant decision by UA once again.

I have always advocated forcing the students into a section of their own. I hate having them scattered throughout the GA seats, getting hushed by grumpy fans who feel that their ticket entitles them a cheers-free game to watch. It completely kills the atmosphere that we need to build to get more people to the game.

Makes sense in that regard, but many people that are students have friends and family that are not. Many will just not attend if they're unable to sit with whom they wish. Those of you on here that know me understand my passion for Zips basketball. I've missed maybe 3 games over the last 5 years, and have made many road trips. At least offer a discount then for students who wish to buy their way out. Stupid.

That's my biggest issue with the rule. Some alumni have friends who are students and now they will be forced to sit with those friends in the worst seats in the entire arena.

It's not like people who are paying tens of thousands of dollars to UA deserve good seats are anything.

I understand your personal situation, as I went through it for years. However I agree that the students should be in one section and not spread around. From the numerous away games I've been to in the last 30 years, they all do it this way. The JAR has always lacked that college gameday feel that even other MAC schools enjoy.

In regards to the end zone seats being bad, I love sitting in them. I've sat at the top of the North end since the 80's and think they are some of the best seats. I like seeing the entire court at once and watching the plays develop. There are many familiar faces up there with me, so I know there are others that agree.

My issues are two with this:

1. Get your s#$% together and announce it at the beginning of the season

2. I know for a fact that there will be a lot more students who will just not attend rather than choose between sitting there or dropping $100.

Oh. And also UA thanks for popping this little gem a few days AFTER the $55 GA sale.

All my bitching for nothing. It was the same as it ever was. Just keep it that way for the rest of the season and I'll purchase my season tickets as usual for next year (I had 5 years worth under my belt before going back to school last year).

Where did it ever say this on Facebook? The Athletics Department is trying to get students to sit together so they can actually have an impact on the game. However, there has never been any requirement that students sit in one area. It was suggested that students sit on the north end last year and that was changed to the south end this year. That's all that has changed. Take a deep breath and relax. Those working in the department are not out to get anyone, they are simply trying to make the most or a bad arena layout and allow students to impact the game while managing a variety of other factors.

By the way, there were fewer than 100 students in the lower level section today. It's a good thing there weren't other seats available down low for students or they would have been left empty as well...
