The rest of the MAC bowl games:

1) Little Caesars Pizza; Central Michigan vs. W. Kentucky

2) Military; Bowling Green vs. San Jose State

3) AdvoCare V100 Independence; Ohio vs. ULM

4) Discover Orange; Florida State vs. Northern Illinois

5) GoDaddy.com; Arkansas State vs. Can't State

Maybe part of the problem with the current bowls is the commercialized naming. I realize they need the sponsors, but why can't it be "The Orange Bowl brought to you by Discover" or someyhing like that. They've lost their historical (and local) context by going with only the sponsor's name.

@ziptrumpet87, bringing it closer to home, how about:

Zips Field brought to you by Summa Health System at The University of Akron Stadium brought to you by InfoCision Management Corporation.

Seriously, this is one point where GP1 has it right: It's all about the money. People who put up the big bucks get to call the shots. And don't forget that corporations are people.

I get that... just sad that it destroys the connection to the past where people knew what they were. I guess the overabundance of bowls hasn't helped much either.

Solid win by CMU last night. Wednesday night football between Christmas and New Years is a good thing. It was a good game and close to the end. I get that it isn't BCS level, but I was still entertained and that's good enough for me.

Due to schedule conflicts, this was the 1st MAC bowl game I was able to watch live, and I agree it was an entertaining game. Both teams had a couple of players on both sides of the ball who made plays. I also enjoyed the sequence in the 1st half where WKU flipped the field on CMU with an 80+ yard punt only to have the Chippewa punter return the favor after a three and out. IIRC, Ford Field provides a good environment for kickers.

It's nice to see the MAC team win on a "home" field, since most of the sites don't lend themselves to large contingents of MAC fans. While I favor a shot at a bowl over a shot at the FCS playoffs, I acknowledge that, besides Detroit, most other bowls are hard pressed to get a decent MAC crowd. Maybe if 1 or 2 of the coastal bowls would move to Indianapolis and/or Toronto (I liked the International Bowl for the MAC for recruiting and locale) this might help out this situation.

CNNSI Recap

The following quote, referring to WKU going for it on 4th and 2 within routine FG range on their last series, made me chuckle (a little):

"I don't know what I would have done," Enos said. "But I will never second guess a coach for trying to win."

Getting caught up on the games, BG can't hang on to a 4th quarter lead and falls 29-20 yesterday to San Jose St. Watching the game, SJSU's David Fales is about as impressive a college QB as I've seen all year. He is accurate and unflappable, as the stout Falcon defense certainly brought plenty of pressure.

Today, OU is all over UL-Monroe, and they're doing it right in the Warhawks' backyard. The final is 45-14.

I said ahead of the bowls that a 3-4 aggregate record would be pretty respectable. Sitting at 2-3 after today, the MAC will need either an NIU win over FSU or a K.E.N.T. win over Ark St. That's a pretty tall order. At least the MAC is guarenteed to have a winning record against the Sunbelt.

I wouldn't get too down on the Mac. They are competing well and have a couple of win. Don't bank too much on bowl results.

If OU doesn't get an injury bug late season, they go to bcs in lieu of NIU and I like their total package better against FSU than NIU.

If the Mac ends up 2-5, I don't think it cuts into the league having a solid season.

Sorry I was a little unclear, as this (getting down on the MAC) really wasn't my intent. On the contrary, I have acknowledged all along that the MAC faced some tough matchups (opponent and location) in these 2012-2013 bowls. It's great seeing Mark May and Lou Holtz repeatedly giving the conference props in the studio after today's game.

I just wish the MAC bowl games were against a wider variety of conferences. I realize that some of these games have MAC schools filling in for conferences that couldn't fill their tie-ins but I sure think that it would be nice if any conference gets 7 bowl bids that they would be opposite 7 different conferences.

The MAC-Sun Belt thing is one thing because of the fill-in teams but things like three Big Ten-SEC games just creates more boredom for me. Each conference should try for more diverse TIE-INS with respect to who their opponents would be. I know it will never happen because of the $$$ though.

After a pretty good MAC football season, is it crazy that a MAC player would be drafted #1 overall!?!?

Mayock writes Senior Bowl could have answered many questions.

Note: MDZip first pointed this out in the basketball forum, but this might be a better spot if you want to discuss E Fisher.

I'm glad you brought this up, Dr Z, because this turn of events (his steady rise on the draft boards) seems to have gone largely unnoticed around here. Fisher was a HUGE reason why Tipton ran wild over the Zips in Mt Pleasant this past year. I've never been impressed with Enos as a head coach. It makes me wonder how the Chipps would have done the last few years with Kelly or Jones still at the helm.
