Zipgrad01
I was just watching the end of the Ohio State - Penn State game and Dan Dakich said that Akron was his sleeper team that can make a run in the NCAA tourney. He said Zeke is a great shot blocker and that we have a few key guys with key experience. He also mentioned Dambrot being a very good coach. As for the game....I am not that impressed with OSU. I would love to somehow get a matchup with them in the tourney.
Dave in Green
@Zipgrad01, you will like Andy Glockner's current bracketology. He currently has the Zips as a #12 seed playing #5 seed tOSU in Austin.

Dr Z
...has the Zips as a #12 seed playing #5 seed tOSU in Austin.PLEASE make this happen! Nothing in the college basketball world would make me happier than to beat Columbus in the tournament.
zen
The problem is, that assumes the Zips win the MAC tournament. Nothing else we do affects that prediction. Well, if the zips rack up some losses but still win the Mac Tourney, it's doubtful they would still be seeded 12 and match up with OSU

I was thinking in the opposite direction. If we run the table and lose the championship game by one point in triple OT we get the NIT and not the dance. zen
You are correct. I was thinking in the opposite direction. If we run the table and lose the championship game by one point in triple OT we get the NIT and not the dance. This reminded me of a poll question I thought up recently. Would you rather the Zips get to the Sweet 16, or win the whole NIT? I thought about it for a bit and realized that almost everyone would vote sweet 16. So I think a better poll would be, "What would be better, one win in the NCAA, or winning the NIT?"
Dave in Green
@zen, as I recall, your question is discussed here on an annual basis. My best recollection is that winning a single NCAA tournament game always gets way more votes than winning the NIT championship. It'll be interesting to see if that still holds true. Z.I.P.
That one is obvious too, win the NIT. Of course. Just further evidence of how little many people know about CBB -- and how little appreciated the National Invitational Tourney is. As I say every time this comes up, the worst team in the NIT is better than just about half the teams in the NCAA tourney. Winning four or five games against that caliber of competition is incredible. The only drawback about the NIT is that they give the home court to the bigger name school whenever possible, thereby making progress very difficult. Now, if it were Sweet 16 vs NIT finalist, I would have to agree with the (near unanimous) majority. The biggest difference between the tournaments is simply the amount of media attention. But a NIT run is noticed more by the CBB fraternity (than one-and-done in NCAA).

zestycoyote
Love people overlooking Ohio. Akron a final four team according to Dakich? Absolutely no chance. Ohio returns a Sweet 16 and MAC champ team from last year. Since when did Akron deserve to be picked from Ohio? Oh well, this will all end when Ohio comes to Akron and crushes the Zips in front of a mediocre 800 Akron students. The only problem with your theory is a certain coach that is now at Illinois... Sure, the talent is still there, but Akron has more of it and more depth.

Since they have an RPI that is 30+ points higher with a better record against a stronger schedule. Rufus better bring his litter box up for this one because nobody at Akron is overlooking Ohio U, despite what talking heads in the national media might be saying. This one's been circled since March 10, 2012. February 2nd can't get here soon enough.
K92
I would love to overlook Ohio, but their moronic band of forum trolls won't let me.
RootforRoo44
And Ohio doesn't have depth? More than Akron does. Our coach has dominated the MAC. Not to feed the stoner (troll) but Ohio does not have that much depth. It's definitely not in the same ball park as Akron, that's for sure. userduders
Yes, because we have no depth. Ricardo Johnson and TJ Hall are incredible off the bench. Stevie Taylor is a spark and as you saw last year smoked Akron. Our starting center from last year (sweet 16 team) now comes off the bench. A three point sharp shooter and a new transfer forward. We returned everyone from last year. We most definitely have more depth. I wouldn't say you "most definitely" have more depth, I do believe you have depth but I believe you are vastly understating Akron's as well. I would do a little more research or watch an akron game before you make assumptions on a Akron Zips message board.
LZIp
depth is very similar. Each team has 10 guys averaging more than 10 minutes a game.
Zipgrad01
Toledo's coach said that Ohio and Akron were both very talented, but Akron has more depth. This was after he played both of them in a matter of a week or so. I will agree with the comments of a non-biased MAC coach over internet trolls any day. ksu sucks
“Ohio is really good; Akron is deeper than they are,” Kowalczyk said. “They’re the deepest team in the league.” Your welcome.
