UAZipster0305
If you read the article, you will see that the league is building stadiums and going to provide housing for its players/ coaches. Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the UA players hate the Rubber Bowl because it was so far away from campus? There is no place to build housing close to the bowl here so history will repeat itself. Also, if the league is building new state of the art stadiums how in the world can Akron compete? No matter what you do to the 75 year old Rubber Bowl it isn't going to be a nice, new, attractive 20,000 seat venue! I see this a giant epic fail long before it ever begins!! Sad! I was really hoping to go and sit in "my" seats again! Where are the other teams of this league getting funding for a stadium? If a new stadium is so important, why wouldn't the Fire sign a lease for the The Big Dialer?
zipsfan33
1. The league has a deal in place with a real estate company to build housing and a Stadium in 5 of 8 markets. 2. They looked into renting the Info, but UA officials demanded that they ran, and in turn, got all concession profits.

GP1
I was really hoping to go and sit in "my" seats again! Seat? Hell, you could sit in the entire row you probably had by yourself at that dump. The thought of this league trying to fix up the Rubber Bowl just makes me laugh to no end. GP1
Using specifics, what do you think is wrong with the Rubber Bowl now? The RB needs much more than a coat of paint. It is a concrete structure with a faulty foundation that will cost millions, upon millions to remediate. Thousands of potential seats could not be used because the benches would have to be replaced. The press box will need to drastic renovations to it in order to occupy it again. The stall doors in the mens rooms don't have doors. I've worked in the construction industry for a long time. I always tell people that if they knew what went on while a building was being built, they would never walk into one. Here is my opinion of the renovations they are going to make on the RB...If they can fix up the RB for what they say they can, don't step foot in that place or you will be risking your life. The RB should be condemned and razed before someone gets hurt.

zipsfan33
There are certainly trees growing up through the cracks. You can even see them in the summer when you drive by on Triplett BLVD. They are skinny maples...

CincyZip
You have set off my Bull Shit detector. But that's OK; everything else about this deal stinks to high heaven also. It did not sit well with me, so I gave them a call and you are right. They are going to sell the naming rights, however they do want to keep something "Rubber Bowl" in the name. zipsfan33
Cincy, Did you get any pictures? When is construction set to begin? Did they mention anything about the closed end sinking? Will they tarp it? Will they give tours? Is there anything left of worth for a man-cave lets say? lol

I'm pretty sure they still have their bowl signs in tact by the press box (Pioneer Bowl?)

Spin
The logo and color combination looks pretty bad on the website, but w/e I'm not excited about the name, I'm old school and like plural names (Browns, Zips, Aeros). And "Fire" sounds too WLAF/WFL. Too Chicago soccerish (at least they honor firefighters ) But the hot rodder in me likes the flames. I still think Aces would be cool, with vintage flyovers from MAPS, and all the merchandise tie-ins.

GP1
Not being smart, but how much would renevation of the RB cost compared to a new Columbus Crew Stadium-type venue? Depends on what they do to the RB. If they do the job right, it would cost less to build Crew Stadium? If memory serves me correctly, Crew stadium is 100% above ground and is a steel frame, aluminum seating stadium. It wouldn't cost much to build. The Big Dialer would cost more than Crew stadium because of all of the brick work and being partially in ground.
