akzipper Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 No surprise on Alford. He's a traditional coach in the sense of job hopping. UCLA is his fifth head coaching gig. Well KD has coached 4 schools so far, 5 if you include St.V's. He's only a few years older than Alford and also signed a 10-year extension. Anything can happen. Nobody thought Porter would leave... skip-zip Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Andy Katz has some thoughts on the subject in a blog entitled Why Coaches Are Content with Staying Put. Dave, As Zips fans, we have to love the part of this article where the writer believes that the talent gap in college basketball is closing. Quote
Dr Z Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Andy Enfield Not "Content" at FGCU. Enfield led FGCU to the Round of 16 of the NCAA Tournament last week, a charmed run of fearless play that captured the nation for a week. Enfield became the biggest story in college basketball, as everything in his back story from his super model wife to his niche as a shooting specialist captivated America. Quote
GP1 Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Andy Enfield Not "Content" at FGCU. I wonder if this line shouldn't read, "Enfield Not 'Content' Coaching College Basketball". Many guys who taste the NBA crave it once they are out. They say they are happy, but deep down inside they aren't. Enfield spent lots of time in the NBA and FGCU isn't the path back to the NBA. USC is the path back to the NBA IF he can get it turned around. He appears to be a quick turnaround guy so we will see where it takes him. The PAC-Whatever isn't a difficult league to get good in. Throw in the LA lifestyle and a good coach can bring in a lot of good players to quickly turn it around and get back in the NBA. I think this Enfield guy is a good coach. Not only does he get good talent, but he is able to get that talent to do what he wants them to do. In an era when players are completely over-coached and appear to be tight, his players are well coached and play loose, but not haphazardly. Quote
