Dr Z Posted March 26, 2013 Report Posted March 26, 2013 Per Z-Fund mailer I got today Medina Country Club Card says for more info go here. Card also mentions Basketball outing is August 19th I'll need some help with the rest because the card got beat up (smeared) in the mail, and whomever was in charge of the printing decided not to coat the the card. I received the same card and mine was smeared a little also. But, here is what I can decipher: Zips Football Summer Jamboree Golf Outing presented by LeafFilter - June 10 at Medina CC Zips Baseball Diamond Legends Classic - July 22 at Medina CC Zips Men's Basketball Summer Classic Golf Outing presented by FirstEnergy - August 19 at The Quarry GC The Invitational presented by FirstEnergy Solutions, to benefit Zips Men's and Women's Golf Programs - October 1 at Firestone CC I have had early June vacation plans for some time and I was worried they would conflict with the football outing, but no worries as I don't leave for vacation until June 11 Quote

Hilltopper Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 I looks like I will have to take my rain gear. Monday Forecast Quote
Dr Z Posted June 7, 2013 Author Report Posted June 7, 2013 I looks like I will have to take my rain gear. Monday Forecast Seriously though, I'm not too worried over "scattered" stuff right now. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted June 7, 2013 Report Posted June 7, 2013 My league prematurely called off last night's round, and it ended up being great conditions for those of us who played anyway. So I'm not worried about the forecast yet. Here is another promo for the event. Matt Kaulig deserves a lot of credit for his support. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 Medina hour by hour weather.com The team with the most versatile rain gear surely will win today. Quote
GP1 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 T-Storms? Be careful out there today. Maybe there should be a rule that any team with a member who is struck by lightning is the automatic winner. Quote
Hilltopper Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Last time I played Medina CC it was called Rawiga CC. A T-storm blew through and while standing under a shelter a bolt of lightning struck a nearby tree. After seeing that, I always stop playing at even the slightest chance of a lightning strike. Today is going to be a soggy mess. Quote
GP1 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Today is going to be a soggy mess. We understand what the condition of you liver will be after a day like today, but what do you think the course will be like? Quote
Dr Z Posted June 10, 2013 Author Report Posted June 10, 2013 ...what do you think the course will be like? Will give the ability to shoot for the flag stick with soft greens. Could be some low scores today. If the hard rain stays away, I love these conditions. Quote
K92 Posted June 10, 2013 Report Posted June 10, 2013 Nice talk in the clubhouse this evening. Coach Bowden spoke along with Coaches Amato, Buckley and Woodford. Learned that there are some nice additions in the works. Keep your fingers crossed that everything pans out. I was already excited for the '13 season, but I left even more so. Go Zips! Quote

If the hard rain stays away, I love these conditions.Hard rain stayed away, greens were soft, and the putts rolled well. I believe 59 won, and there were a couple of 60's shot. Team ZipsNation was 6 strokes off the lead. Our team played well. Well run event, plenty of food and beer to be had. Coaching staff very willing to answer or discuss anything you had on your mind. I agree Dr Z. In fact, not only were the coaches completely accessible, they were so well prepared that they answered most of my questions without me having to ask. I liked the idea of allowing TB to take the 1st putt for each group on a designated hole. Nice touch! Quote
Hilltopper Posted June 11, 2013 Report Posted June 11, 2013 Got to spend the day riding in the cart with John Poe, the wide receivers coach. He is very optimistic about this years receivers corps. He is confident that D'Orazio will step in and take over for Suel on the inside. Dillard and Pratt are the front runners for the outside receiver spots. Quote

I believe you mean John Pont, grandson of former Miami/Yale/Indiana/Northwestern HC John (also) Pont, who also happens to be TB's son-in-law. But I am also optimistic that D'Orazio will lead the team in receptions. I also think TB is looking to Wolf or Traylor-Bennett to make noise as a gamebreaker straight out of the box. Quote

Thanks Johnny for fixing my brain fart! He seems like a really sharp guy. He has aspirations to be a D-1 head coach one day. This is a really good coaching staff. Quote
ZachTheZip Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 Coach Pont has taken it upon himself to become the head coach of the Zips' club lacrosse team, and in his first year he turned a struggling team into a winner. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 14, 2013 Author Report Posted June 14, 2013 I also think TB is looking to Wolf or Traylor-Bennett to make noise as a gamebreaker straight out of the box.I would guess the below quote from George has something to do with coaches comments on MTB to us. From George's "Notebook" No one can accuse wide receiver recruit Mykel Traylor-Bennett of lacking commitment. He’s in school and already at work on his own with the goal of getting to playing as soon as possible. He’s posted links on Twitter of him playing pitch and catch with presumed starting quarterback Kyle Pohl. His twitter handle is @MrFootball_10, and he can be very witty at times. Here is his Twitter. I like his photo, very comic book-esque. From the video on twitter, he looks to have an impressive move off the line in press coverage. Maybe a minor adjustment though. Quote
johnnyzip84 Posted June 15, 2013 Report Posted June 15, 2013 I would guess the below quote from George has something to do with coaches comments on MTB to us. From George's "Notebook" That's encouraging. IF (and it's a pretty big if at this point) MTB or Wolf becomes the Blackman/Crabtree of the Zip offense, 2013 could be a huge turnaround year. This development, if it occurs, changes everything. Quote

You can say that again. Go Zips. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 18, 2013 Author Report Posted June 18, 2013 I thought of another tid bit that Coach Bowden was talking to ZipsNation about, defense. I believe his quote was "this year our defense may dictate what we do on offense. Depending on how we play on defense we might slow the offense down at times." This made me think of one of the things that coach first said when he got here, "we need to find a way to win at Akron." I believe his initial philosophy was to get as many snaps as he could on offense. After some experience in the MAC, that may not be the case so much. So hopefully we see some times this season where the defense is playing good, and we can efficiently run some time off the clock on scoring drives. Quote
