Transfer DL from Florida State

Recommended Posts

Joe Dunn had a great segment w/ Steve French on 1350 today.

Firstly, they both said they wouldn't be surprised of the Zips add another guard to this year's recruiting class.

Secondly, they mentioned it's 99% certain we've got a 5th-year senior DL transferring in from Florida State.

"Big Time Sports Show w/ Joe Dunn." 1350 AM 3:00-6:00 p.m. It's almost always a good show for Zips fans.

DING DING DING. AKRON WILL HAVE THE BEST DLINE IN SCHOOL HISTORY

I assume he's feeling pretty healthy? If it becomes official, I'm glad he'll be a Zip but I also hope his Athlete's heart is under control. I'm sure the UA staff will perform all the necessary precautions.

If he can play even 1/2 of the snaps, you might be right in your assessment of the 2013 D-Line! Now, let's hope CJ makes grades and takes advantage of the talent occupying the opponent's O-Line in front of him.

Edit: Thanks for the clarification on when he might arrive, hugo42

I feel like a lot of time these types of transfers get overrated. I hear a name like Florida State, Michigan State, Ole Miss, etc and think we're getting the next Cam Newton. Even in basketball with Forsythe I expected more, just because of the WVU connection. Unfortunately 9 times out of 10 they really don't make an impact. Luke Getsy is the only one I can think of that really had success.

Really? Go away and never come back. I can't read a thread anymore without negativity coming from your keyboard. Your posts will be better served in the Can't and OU forums where they are negative towards us. That's where you belong

Hats off to Coach Bowden & the rest of the coaching staff. These guys are always looking to add another player to the mix instead of being complacent. Eventually, the results are going to show on the field. Perhaps sooner than later.

GO ZIPS!

Seems like a good opportunity to remind members how to ignore a user if their particular posting habits don't fit into your overall ZN reading enjoyment.

Just what were you expecting Pat Forsythe to do? Sit NBA bound Zeke Marshall down?

Pat performed very well. His role was to be a foil for Zeke to beat on in practice; which he did well. And give 10-15 minutes

in a game to give Zeke a rest. Again, Pat performed well. He even gave a few minutes against VCU when he was dog sick.

That makes him a trooper and worthy of praise. Which the coaches gave him.

Pat will have an entire off season to hone his skills. This luxury he did not have coming in as a transfer.

Like another poster commented, why the continual negativity? There is plenty of heart ache burning in Zips fans right now.

There is no need to add to it. It is time to be positive and forward looking. Akron has for several years been a quality and

highly respected mid-major. The coaching staffs of several sports have given us a lot of victories and name recognition.

So instead of talking basketball in the Football Recruiting thread...

Here is Moses Twitter page. Most recent posting June 2012. Not much of a tweeter, I like that.

Four star recruit according to rivals.

Article (8/10) on his struggles with injuries

Fully rehabbed this summer from an elbow injury that kept him out most of spring 2010's practices, and a foot injury last August that completely cancelled his true junior season, McCray is returning to the Seminoles' rotation determined to make a difference again.

A Tampa native, the 316-pound defensive tackle has participated in various activities throughout this year's camp, but has been held out of most contact drills, like Tuesday's scrimmage. While his teammates are implementing game plans, he's still trying to get in shape. In addition to not practicing the past year, he hasn't played in a game since 2009.

"It's just been a very long process," McCray said. "Tough both physically and mentally as far as rehab, dealing with the pain, knowing that your teammates needed you out there but you haven't been able to help them."

Coach Jimbo Fisher is in no rush to get McCray back, but realizes his presence could be key to the Seminoles' deep 10-man defensive tackle rotation.

"He's progressing OK, but hadn't got a lot of things yet," Fisher said. "We have to be very cautious and don't want to hurt him back into something he's not ready for."

If this guys healthy, we've gone from a 2-man-deep DL situation to a 6-man-deep rotation:

2012

Grice------Caponi

2013

Grice-----Caponi

Hollis-----McCray

Price----Gauthney

The new four (Hollis, McCray, Gauthney & Price) are all 300-pounders.

IMHO the lack of depth @ DT is why we lost half the games we lost last year.

Teams with depth on the d-line have an opportunity to have a great season.

Teams with no depth on the d-line have an opportunity to go 1-11.

This staff is smart and trying everything they can to correct last season's most glaring weakness & I am very excited about that. Cody Grice, Nico Caponi & Albert Presley gave it everything they had last year and I saw a lot of hands on hips with tongues wagging. I can't wait to see what these 3 guys can do if they have some quality additions who can play well enough to give 'em a blow without them chomping at the bit to get right back in there because we are being eaten alive by our opponent.

I salute the effort put forth by last year's d-line. Hope they get a big payoff for their dedication this year.

Absolutey, K92!

I think I actually want these guys (D-Line, especially) to experience some winning even more than I want it for myself. Like I've said a few times, if CJ Mizell is eligible I think he's a potential game changer. I can't wait to see Coach Amato and Co working with closer to a full deck. Even if a few of the new guys on the D-Line don't pan out, the depth should still show a marked improvement.
