GP1 Posted June 26, 2013 Report Posted June 26, 2013 NFL Arrests Since 2000 I'm shocked that the destruction of a cell phone and home security system wouldn't throw the detectives off the scent.....NOT! It's 2013 dude. A criminal mastermind he is not. I could really have a lot of fun making fun of this idiot, but since someone is dead, I won't. In all seriousness, a $40 million contract does not make a sociopath a non sociopath. All a lot of teams can do these days is give out the contracts and hope for the best with these fools. Quote

I've often thought about these kinds of things over the last few years whenever Cleveland fans find ways to discredit someone with LeBron's character. We live in an era where, unfortunately, sports fans worship guys who commit crimes, hit their wives, etc. Quote
Zipmeister Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 [size=7] I've often thought about these kinds of things over the last few years whenever Cleveland fans find ways to discredit someone with LeBron's character. We live in an era where, unfortunately, sports fans worship guys who commit crimes, hit their wives, etc. Presented in the manner the way the article did, this looks really bad and while it's not good, it's not all that terrible. There are 31 teams in the NFL, each with an active roster and practice squad equal to 61 players per season. That's 1,952 players per year. For the almost 14 years included in the report the 640 arrests represents only 0.23% of the 27,328 players in the league. Quote
Dave in Green Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Holy crap! I never imagined seeing Zipmeister going all statistical on us. I think there was a missed decimal point there, as my math shows an average annual 2.34% arrest rate for NFL players (640/27,328 = 0.0234 = 2.34%). According to FBI statistics, the estimated arrest rate for the United States in 2011 was 3,991.1 arrests per 100,000 inhabitants, which translates to 3.99%. So that means that the average US citizen is about 1.7 times more likely to be arrested in a given year than an NFL player. The difference is that the NFL player will get way more publicity than the average citizen. Quote
Zipmeister Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 Apparently the decimal point on the TI Business Analyst II is now too small for me to see without reading glasses. I must note, however, that I did not go statistical on you; I did make a few arithmetic calculations. Quote
GP1 Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 We live in an era where, unfortunately, sports fans worship guys who commit crimes, hit their wives, etc. It depends on what one is willing to look away from in order to field a winning team. I, for one, am willing to look past things like smoking pot because I don't think it should be illegal and it doesn't hurt others if you do it at home and don't drive. I don't look past dog fighting or generally things that drag society down like wife beating and violent crimes. Quote

Zipmeister Posted June 27, 2013 Report Posted June 27, 2013 How many don't get arrested because of their celebrity? That is an interesting question for which no data is available. One could make valid arguments that celebrities suffer a higher arrest rate or enjoy a lower arrest rate than others due solely to their celebrity. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 Aaron has now become a suspect in ANOTHER murder investigation!?!? Not a good week for the young man. FOX 25 has learned exclusively that investigators are looking into Aaron Hernandez as a possible suspect in a double murder that happened on July 16, 2012 in downtown Boston. According to the Boston Police blog from that date, officers responded to the intersection of Shawmut Avenue and Herald Street just after 2 a.m. When they arrived, they found three people had been shot, two fatally, as they sat in a car at a traffic light. The men were identified as Safiro Furtado and Daniel Abreu. The FOX 25 source said the men, who worked at a cleaning company in Dorchester, had just left a bar in the area. Quote

I used the term sociopath above and I thought I was using it loosely. Maybe I was using it correctly. Quote

I don't know the answer to this, but what is the trend line? The real problem the NFL has is if the trend line is going up and the seriousness of the crimes trend line is going up as well. Quote
Dr Z Posted June 27, 2013 Author Report Posted June 27, 2013 Interesting. I used the term sociopath above and I thought I was using it loosely. Maybe I was using it correctly. Source The officials said investigators now believe that Odin Lloyd, the man Hernandez is charged with killing in a North Attleboro industrial park June 17, may have had information about Hernandez’s role in the double slaying. “The motive might have been that the victim knew [Hernandez] might have been involved,” one of the officials said. NOTE: Today in court the prosecutor asked for a sidebar with the judge when the judge ask to clarify motive. Quote
Dr Z Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Well written Rolling Stone article by Paul Solotaroff w/ Ron Borges Aaron Hernandez Mother Terri Married Jeffery Cummings Violent Drug Dealer After Cheating On Father Dennis Hernandez But in January 2006, Dennis checked himself in for a hernia repair at a local hospital. Something happened on the table, though, and he contracted an infection; two days later, he was dead. He was 49, in otherwise splendid health, and beloved by virtually everyone in town. Gators head coach Urban Meyer helped "cover up" failed drug tests and also helped with the bar assault and the shooting that happened near a Gainesville bar Quote
GP1 Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I took in this article today as well DrZ. It's a great read. A little bit too much blame on people other than Aaron Hernandez for Aaron Hernandez's problems, but a good article in general. Quote
LZIp Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 Maybe we should blame Dambrot on AA becoming the largest drug dealer on campus. See how dumb that sounds? Quote
Dr Z Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Did you read the article from start to finish, or just repeat what you read on columbusstatefootballforum.com? I wonder if Myers name gets brought up so much during the trial that the NCAA is forced to act. Comparing KD/AA situation to Myers/Hernandez is pretty ridiculous. Quote
LZIp Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I dont read any Ohio State forums. Accusing a coach of covering up a murder for one of his players is a bout as much of a reach as there is. A reporter is mad because Urban wouldn't give him access to team business, while at Florida, therefore he must have been covering something up Quote
Dr Z Posted August 28, 2013 Author Report Posted August 28, 2013 Accusing a coach of covering up a murder for one of his playersI think you need to read, or reread the article. Quote
GP1 Posted August 28, 2013 Report Posted August 28, 2013 I wonder if Myers name gets brought up so much during the trial that the NCAA is forced to act. I wonder if the prosecution will feel the need to establish Hernandez has a history of this type of behavior, which would prove he could in fact have committed this crime he is obviously guilty of because he is the worst criminal in the world and subpoena Meyer.?.? If so, it will be interesting to see what comes out. Everything becomes very, very, very real when real lawyers get involved. Quote
