lance99
It's a nice stadium, but when you're held up as an example of what not to do, that's embarrassing... Akron offers cautionary tale for FAU's football program Two things stick to me in this article: One that they made no mention that the Rubber Bowl was way off campus. And 15k a game!? that is 50% of tickets sold. That is some low hanging fruit to go after.
LZIp
InfoCision cost a fraction of what most BCS stadium press box upgrades cost. $65 million is chump change in D1 football. The worst miscalculation of the past 10 years was hiring Rob Ianello. If Bowden were hired 4 years ago, there would be no stadium conversations...except for the few clowns wondering what it would take to expand the stadium in order to keep him. couldnt agree more. I agree 15k seems low, but we didn't hit it once last year. Hopefully with a better team we can get there some this year. The program really, really, really needs fans to show up for some games. However, in order for them to get fans, they need to make it worth the fans time and win some games. Some have touched on the Rubber Bowl issue. The Big Dialer wasn't built because the school wanted a new stadium. It was built because the RB was in jeopardy of being condemned. Had it been condemned, the outcome would have been worse than the hiring of Ianello.
K92
I see lots of predictions that BG is headed to the MACC. They had an impressive defense last year. I will give you that, but who will replace Samuel at RB? Perhaps they have a good one to plug in that hole that I am unaware of. Secondly, I think Matt Schilz is a complete stiff at QB. When he tries to step up against a good MAC defense, he will fold like a Dollar General™ tent in a windstorm. I see they have a guy named Travis Greene who can run the ball and a quarterback named Matt Johnson who put Schilz on the bench and a defense that held the C-USA Champion Tulsa Golden Hurricane to 7 points in a beatdown in week one. AKSportsFan
CMU @ Michigan might be a barometer of what's coming our way in a couple weeks. Michigan just blocked a punt and ran it in for a score. It's not going well early for the Chips! Tough place to play.

Balsy
'best'............or only? and James Madison...and Miami...and Can't... Can't looked TERRIBLE against Liberty. Without Dri Archer they completely fell apart offensively. And I would wager to say our defense is better than Liberty's.

Well since Liberty is coached by Turner Gill and he has a pretty good record against Akron I would say I would not read much into the Can't game. Also, Can't State won more football games last year than we have in the last 5 years combined so any comparisons about how an opponent does against them and our potential are a little sketchy. Akron Football has never been so low. I really do not see a win on the schedule this year unless the opponent turns the ball over and basically gives us the game. I'm at the point where I just cannot force myself to watch the lack of performance. I count the days to basketball and I have soccer in the fall. I don't want people with your attitude anywhere near the football program anyway. Stay the F out. In fact, stay away from our other sports, too. AKSportsFan
We did BETTER in this game than last year and people still thought we would win 3-4 last year. We improved the outcome against a team that many say have improved also. We did get blown out but we didn't get blown out as much as a year before. The defensive line looked way better than I have seen in the past 5 seasons. Do we need to play better yes but does Thursday nights performance indicate a zero win season? Heck no. There are no gimmies this year but our football team is improved from a year ago. And yes we will get blown out by Michigan but that is a given for any mac school playing them. Let's take this thing week by week and Saturday we play JMU. Let's focus on that game and win it then we can worry about the next one. This team will win this year. We are headed in the right direction.
AKSportsFan
and OU is losing to Louisville 21 to nothing at the beginning of the second quarter. They probably won't win a game this year either. WHAT?!....of course they are going to win this year. Settle down people, it's early. acstorfer
I just really wish I had any reason (in my mind) to think Akron Football will win more than two games this year. I am actually just hoping we have two wins.

I'm thinking I'm just a bit spoiled being from north Jersey. I grew up a Giants and Yankees fan. Well, I also grew up a Knicks and Rangers fan so please pardon the pessimism. Quite honestly if there are some competitive games I'll be happy (and a proud alumni) with one or two wins. Well I'm a proud alumni anyway. TheDudeWithTheJMUTat
? Looking forward to the game on Saturday. Come find me, let's talk football, and I'll buy you a beer. I'll be easy to spot.
Ham
? How many sacks did we have last year? QB hurries? We are already half way there this year after one game against a quality opponent! I believe that JM is just the ticket to allow our OL to come together. I look for B & B to put some spark in our passing game. We need to trust TB in bringing this team along. You just can't polish a young team in the summer. Even though we do have many upper classmen, they have had only one year in this system at most. Some have had only a few weeks. By December you will have a very different attitude! GP1
Getting back to the main topic of the number of wins this season. After watching a few MAC teams play this weekend, there is no reason to think this team can't win at least four games. This Zips team doesn't have the players to beat BG, NIU or Toledo so let's get that out of the way. However, they can beat OU, BSU, JM, Miami, Can't State and UMass. Win four of those games and they have four wins. I wouldn't be surprised if they won five. They just need to go out and do it. I didn't see the depth of talent on many MAC teams like we saw last year. A loss to ucf on the road in August does not mean the team is only going to win 1-2 games. mivid12
there was very little to get excited about thursday....maybe DL mccray....dj jones...mtb i would bench chisholm...i've seen enough of him...play the youngsters if pohl continues to play like he did thursday then nick needs to play... GP1
there was very little to get excited about thursday.... While this is true, with the exception of about three MAC schools, everyone in the league could say the same thing. 4 wins is not unreasonable. I agree, for the most part, but I would also mention Nico Caponi, Dylan Evans & Zach Paul. Anybody know what's up with D'Orazio? Didn't hear his name called all night. The Zips really need a guy to replace Suel over the middle.
