Game 1 - UA at UCF

Like I said if the right guy is available. Don't take a QB to take a QB. Carr probably would have flopped on most teams.

"GM Zippy" would have taken Luck, Stafford, Newton, Ryan, Ben, Palmer, Cutler, Brees, Manning, Eli, Rivers and so on in the spots they were taken. Do you think teams that passed over those guys are thinking "great thing we passed on our franchise QB, we weren't ready for one!" Hint: the answer is no, they're probably kicking themselves for trading their picks or taking D'Brickshaw Ferguson

GM Zippy5 wouldn't have been working for those teams. Look at them and see if they didn't build from the linemen/defense out and then went after their QB. That's the way you do it if you want to win or else you have to sit your #1 pick till you build so as not to turn him into a bag flesh and broken bones. All that being said the Browns will probably take Bortles or some other QB in the first round. I just hope they sit him for a while rather than throwing him to the lions (not Detroit) - now we've come full circle.

UCF proves with a 52-42 victory over the Baylor Bears, that they were indeed to the best team on our schedule.

This should also give us all hope on what is possible for a team, given the right coach and regardless of the other instate schools. Our goal as a team should be to reach the level of success that the Knights have. I do believe it is possible with Bowden at the helm. Find those diamonds in the rough like Bortles and keep good relations to snag transfers (like Johnson).

What do you guys think?

Bortles raises his NFL draft stock with a solid game in leading UCF to the upset win over Baylor, and the Zips big season-opening loss to the Knights proves to be at least a little less embarrassing. I watched a lot of the game, and there was never any doubt that UCF can play with the big boys. It would be great for the Zips to reach UCF's level, but it's quite a challenging goal.

If you look back on page 15 of this thread I provided a link where Todd McShay has him going #3 overall (on Dec 18th). If he goes higher than that, I will be a tad surprised.

Rob Rang writes that Bortles revealed some flaws last night, and his stats are misleading.

Have I mentioned recently how much I miss UCF being in the MAC? :(

Oddly enough, I wasn't looking at Bortles' stats so much as his overall ability to lead the team to a major upset over a tough Baylor team. Plenty of credit goes to the rest of the UCF players and their coaching staff. But even if his passing wasn't consistently pinpoint in this game, the total game plus intangibles were impressive.

Bortles is potentially an NFL star with huge upside. The problem with a lot of guys is they get within an organization that is terrible at developing QBs...Cleveland is one of those and a team like the NY Jets is another. These types of teams draft QBs and the players are ruined within two years. Hell, throw over half the NFL teams into that category. Bortles has some rough edges that need smoothed out. With the right team, he becomes a star. With the wrong team, he becomes another draft bust. Speaking of busts, did anyone see his girlfriend, Lindsey Duke?

yeah, if anything Bortles hurt his draft stock last night. Most of the TDs were YAC..more of a credit to the WR than to Bortles. He threw a couple of bad INTs. He was projected top 3..kind of think he goes lower now.

A couple of bad interceptions?? I will give you the first one, even though you see those throws all the time in the NFL giving their guy a chance to make a play. The second was a fluke that got tipped at the line of scrimmage.

Number one overall

Draft Insider Tony Pauline writes that UCF QB Blake Bortles is a "clear-cut favorite" to be the Texans' pick at No. 1 overall.

Pauline believes Texans owner Bob McNair prefers Johnny Manziel, but Bortles is a "Bill O'Brien type of passer," and Houston seems likely to lock in on signal callers with the draft's top pick. Bortles has drawn media comparisons ranging from Jake Locker to Andrew Luck. In his latest mock draft, Pauline pencils in Bortles at No. 1, and Texas A&M LT Jake Matthews at No. 2 to St. Louis.
