lance99
The good news: The Zips beat Can't and got the Wagon Wheel back for the first time in an while The Bad news: Will this next game be a letdown? I ask this question is because will the Zips lay down with an chance to have a win streak? Will Pohl finally look like an starter, or will he get benched? Will the Zips rise up and play to the end for the win? There is an week off before this game and they have a chance to rest and get healthy. Zipmeister
It's not funny anymore. Get a new shtick. Good. It wasn't supposed to be funny. I'm really concerned that anlance may be a current UofA student.
zipproud
Good. It wasn't supposed to be funny. I'm really concerned that anlance may be a current UofA student. The Kan't win was huge and what I believe to be the turning point of the Bowden era. If we can end with 4 wins that is a great year. If we can upset Toledo and get a 5th win that would be tremendous. No matter how you slice it three wins with a chance to get 4 is just the beginning of great things to come. We had a great turnout of recruits at the Kan't game and they got a chance to witness a great win. I'm telling you people will look back at this win and remember it as the turning point for AKRON FOOTBALL!!!!! Great win ZIPS!!!!

The result of the game yesterday is really telling as to the direction each of the programs are going. Can't is going down even further with the loss of all of those key players. They really have nobody else besides them. As for us, well we are only going to continue to get better! As for the UMASS game. The only worry is that we will come out flat and play our worst game of the year (just like last year). Both teams have 2 weeks to prepare. Don't let up! skip-zip
I've always felt that allowing Ken+ to look superior to us certainly must put us at a disadvantage in local recruiting. So, I'm sure happy to have that advantage back in our favor. A somewhat "expected" win over a bad UMass team will pale in comparison. I've even had plenty of "big deal...Miami sucks" comments from people after I bragged about our domination of the Red Hawks a few weeks ago. But, I DO believe that if we get that win at UMass, and can couple that with an upset win at home against Toledo, we can hit the recruiting trail showing that we have a lot of forward momentum, carrying a 3-game win streak into the off-season. Otherwise, I just don't think a UMass win alone will turn too many heads out there, with potential fans or players. But again, the best news of all is that Ken+ appears to be quickly sliding back into obscurity.

The Can't win was huge but so is continuing on the path to relevance. I applaud what the team did this past weekend. Now they must get their minds right to win a very winnable game. UMASS is looking at this game as their slump buster. Take care of business.
skip-zip
At this point in program development, each win is worthy of celebration. I never said it wasn't. It's just that a UMass win will have very little relevance outside of our circle, compared to the Ken+ win. (See Miami)

(See Miami) Miami was an extremely huge win. Probably bigger than the Can't win. However, I think losing against UMASS would have a bigger impact on the program than a win. Which is why we must win. If that makes sense lol.
Dave in Green
It's usually the case when you play a team you're favored to beat that a win doesn't gain you much because it's expected, but a loss really hurts.
johnnyzip84
RB Lorenzo Woodley is probably UMass' most hyped recruit in their short FBS/1-A run. Due to a few injuries he became the featured back against NIU last week and responded with 160+ yards (albeit on 38 carries). The Florida native could be a handful if the Zips let him off to a good start, but I think Caponi, Grice, McCray and company will keep the middle occupied and Brown, Evans and March should plug the holes that do appear now and then. They should benefit from not needing to focus a lot on a UMass passing attack that has been anemic for most of 2013. This is the time of year when young, talented players can have break-out performances. Let's hope that doesn't happen with Woodley, who reportedly passed up offers from Pitt, Purdue, Arizona St, Tenn, NC St among others to attend UMass. If that makes sense lol. You are correct sir. A win gets us a minimum four for the season and eliminates us from another off season being recognized as a horrible program. It may not seem like it, but a win this week would be extremely meaningful. Heck, a win could give us enough momentum to beat Toledo if we have a really good day at home. It's just that a UMass win will have very little relevance outside of our circle, compared to the Ken+ win.
