wake forest as a #14 seed

akron as a #24 seed...and having to host the IU hoosiers

that is a joke....

zips need a huge crowd thursday night

Need full-on student/Rowdie turnout. Joe and Suzy Akron also need to be there in big numbers. It's one of those 'call/bring a friend' nights.

Temp around 50 with some chance of rain right now.

Spread the word Zip soccer fans!

There's no better wakeup call than a slap in the face from the NCAA. Time for the Zips to hoist a big chip onto their shoulders, carve through the field and thoroughly humiliate the NCAA.

We got hosed last year too (even worse) by getting a 5 seed after being ranked in the top 4 in both RPI and Rankings. As of last week we are currently ranked 8th by adidas and coaches poll, 18th in RPI, then we went on a tear through the MAC tourney...............again, how does this equate to a 24 seed!!!!! F*^?!! corrupt NCAA. Seriously, why do they even bother having rankings and RPI.

I don't know much about soccer, but I did notice the west coast teams were well spread out in the brackets. It just looks like someone wants to make sure the west coast will have the best chance to be represented in the later rounds. Where they were bunched, it seems that those were the weaker teams from the west.

In 2014, all non-conference matches must be vs. ACC, AAC, B1G, Big East or PAC12 opponents. Period.

The MAC drags us down enough as it is. No more College of Charleston and San Diego State.

And no dropping MAC matches at home. Cannot happen. The MAC is historically bad this year, even for the MAC. I am sure the committee considered that.

The western teams are at an all-time high with many quality teams. The west coast teams have traditionally got the shaft come tourney time. This year, they are actually getting their just due.

In order for MSOC to grow, it cannot remain a regional sport.

Having said all that, I still believe Akron better than #16 UMBC, #15 Cal. St. Northridge, #14 Wake Forest (whom we beat), #13 Charlotte, #12 UC Irvine, #11 Mich. State (whom we tied), and #10 UC Santa Barbara.

Somewhere, somehow, Zips should have gotten a first round bye.

I realize it is about what we have done this year but at some point our recent history has got to weigh in at some point. In the last 5 years we have ended the season ranked in the top 11.

2008 - ranked 9th

2009 - ranked 2nd (tied in national championship, but lost in PKs)

2010 - ranked 1st (won national championship)

2011 - ranked 11th

2012 - ranked 7th

Which poll are you referencing?

In the coaches' poll, our ranking has been even higher in each one of the years listed.

The committee should not have considered the MAC's strength as a separate factor because SOS is already factored into RPI, which provides the sum of conference and non-conference schedule strength. The NCAA posts two measurements on its website -- RPI and coaches poll. The Zips rank much higher than 24th on both. That's two years in a row where the NCAA's unpublished measurement has screwed the Zips.

fknbuflobo's first sentence above is correct. The Pac-12 has had an historically strong season, though I believe UCLA is overrated -- #1 overall?? I would put them #4 or 5! For those who haven't seen it, here is the NCAA bracket. It appears that after IU, we will potentially play @Marquette, then possibly vs UVa. Is that right?

Honestly, if we had to "get screwed", there's no better way than to face off against our arch-rival in the first round! I'm pretty sure we've never played them in the opening round before, but when did we even play IU in the tournament? I suspect one of Caleb's teams did face-off with his old club.

Also, it is really hard to schedule in this sport with the anticipation of who will be strong, in advance. Anyone think UMBC would be up where they are? And FYI -- San Diego State plays in the Pac-12, though they're fifth of six teams. The top five are all pretty good!
