TennZip
and I agree completely with z.i.p's comments about UCLA being overated how can you be #1 overall seed when that team lost 3-0 to Cal Poly (not even in tourney) and have 2 draws with Oregon State (not even in the tourney) and Cal Irvine, the #12 seed beat UCLA 3-1 in September.... I watched UCLA play Indiana on the big ten network early in September....and the teams were dead even...UCLA won 1-0 in overtime...
Z.I.P.
and I agree completely with z.i.p's comments about UCLA being overated how can you be #1 overall seed when that team lost 3-0 to Cal Poly (not even in tourney) and have 2 draws with Oregon State (not even in the tourney) and Cal Irvine, the #12 seed beat UCLA 3-1 in September.... I watched UCLA play Indiana on the big ten network early in September....and the teams were dead even...UCLA won 1-0 in overtime... Let me just expand a bit on my opinion on Jorge Salcedo's ballclub. For several years, but especially for the current cadre of Bruins, the team must be considered the top team in the nation -- on paper. On the field, Salcedo's charges have consistently under-performed. This season is the best example of the Jeckyl and Hyde aspect of the team. Of the two teams closest to them in the PAC-12 standings, they beat then #1-ranked UC-Berkeley on the road, and drew with Washington in Seattle, while losing at home to Cal - a game that frankly should have cost them at least the #1 seed. But, if that's not enough, they were badly beaten by two Big West teams, Cal Poly 3-0 and UC-Irvine 4-2. But, more generally, when you have the type of internationally experienced players that UCLA recruits every year, this team should at least be in the College Cup every season. I have actually been a bit surprised that the heat on Salcedo hasn't been stronger. Even with the #1 seed -- perhaps because of it, if they fail to make it to the Final Four, this season has to be a disappointment in Westwood. No one should confuse Jorge Salcedo for Sigi Schmid. We still will have not played Northwestern and Wisconsin, both of whom are in the tournament, btw. We should play each of these teams every year, especially Indiana. Big Zip
Do we have to play in a conference in soccer? Can we be independent? I know we'd miss out on the automatic qualifier if we win our conference but it seems our conference does us no favors. Are we as a school at a point where a move to different conference is right no the cusp if our football team could get their act together. We should play each of these teams every year, especially Indiana. It baffles me that we have only played Northwestern and Wisconsin a handful of times each in the entire history of our program. As a result, they are always on my short list of OOC opponents I'd like to see us play. Ideally, we would play every B10 team every year. I would like to see us take a commanding lead in the series with Northwestern and Wisconsin and begin evening up the all-time record with Indiana. Indiana 7-23-2 Northwestern 2-1-0 Wisconsin 1-2-

The MAC is a Football-centric conference, like most conferences in the NCAA. Too bad Football happens to be Zips' worst sport, both historically and currently. Only the truly major conferences care about MSOC. By that I mean ACC, AAC, B1G, Big East, C-USA, and PAC12. (Two notable exceptions to that last statement are the Big12 and SEC.) Right now is an ideal time to forsake the MAC for a bigger conference. Problem is that, because our Football is so bad, the Big East will not take us. Nor will C-USA. The newly formed AAC just might take us - maybe. I would love to see Akron as an independent in MSOC. We do not need that automatic bid. OR, we could do as the Big West schools did, and foresake American football altogether -- and turn the white elephant stadium into a football pitch -- just knock out the first few rows of seats, how hard can that be? If we are gong to change conferences, the first place to look should be the MVC. Top flight basketball and good futbol competition.
fknbuflobo
We always get hosed...I unfortunately have not been able to make it to a Soccer game this season. Consider Thursday's my first of the year, and the car will be filled with people I'm bringing. Go Zips! Tailgate Lot #9 @ 5:00.

You're lucky to be thousands of miles away across a great body of water, because the peasants are reaching for their pitchforks and torches right now. Forsake Football de Americano altogether? OK. Fine. You convinced me; let's do it. That was easy. I have nothing against the sport, but I really do not see Zips achieving mediocrity anytime soon. Many NCAA Football programs actually create revenue, monies that are shared throughout the athletic department. It would take a mountain of evidence for anyone to convince me that Zips Football really does that, all costs considered. So, why devout all that expense? How many scholarships? NW and Wisc.: It is extremely hard to schedule teams that don't exist (that covers a lot of the entire history of our program), and until quite recently scheduling either would have been a lot like scheduling Hiram College (only much farther away). Hope New Mexico gets a better result. This is an interesting, and prescient topic. The ACC, with conference expansion is dominating the sport -- and others will follow. Six of the eight quarterfinalists in the Women's College Cup tournament were from the ACC. At least the ACC teams will be playing each other in the semis, preventing two teams from there in the finals. I have a predilection for the Lobos as well. I'll be wearing my Lobos Soccer T shirt.
