We're adding roller derby, and they're going to play on the track at the Rec.

"You do NOT want to go over the rail in Akron..."

Roller derby would be an EXCELLENT addition.

Roller derby has a strong tradition in Akron. I remember Prof. Castle telling our marketing class that he checked into a hotel in Mexico city, turned on the TV and Earnest Angley was on. Then he changed the channel and Roller Derby from the Akron Armory was on it. He said he was pretty sure folks down there must have thought that Akron was the cultural capitol of the world.

They set some pretty specific goals, including citing numbers for championships won, dollars raised, etc., so now there are numbers with which to measure their actual performance. That's a good first step. But it's generally unexciting news for fans who are more interested in seeing, for example, an artist rendering of a potential new basketball arena.

There are some specific statements in there that address issues we've been debating on ZN.o. For example, the statement that "We will compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics" should put an end to the discussion here about dropping down to a lower level in football. It's now in the master plan to remain at the highest level available to UA.

Now DiG, you know very well that facts have never put an end to discussions on this board.

Did they give any specifics on how our minor sports teams will be able to compete at the highest level while being funded at the lowest level. Now that would be news.

Dave chooses his words wisely. Note his last sentence. If the BCS schools ever go on their merry way, we will still be competing at the highest level available to UofA.

Well it did mention new or renovated arena by 2020, so that was semi-specific/interesting

If I read it correctly, it only promised a facility plan by 2020. Anyone else interpret it that way?

It's a neat bit of marketing material, but not much beyond that. There's no way to guarantee all those conference championships for example.

You're probably right, I didn't double check the wording before I posted. If so, not very exciting. Would have expected that anyway
