MaxZIP
I bet they are going to announce a big reno of the Jar.
ZachTheZip
Perhaps it's the results from this?
Zipmeister
Looking at the results of the big swimming gala being held this weekend I think we are going to petition the NCAA to allow our swim team to drop to DII so that a few of of our lady tanksters can provisionally qualify for nationals. Spin
We're adding roller derby, and they're going to play on the track at the Rec. "You do NOT want to go over the rail in Akron..."

Roller derby would be an EXCELLENT addition. Roller derby has a strong tradition in Akron. I remember Prof. Castle telling our marketing class that he checked into a hotel in Mexico city, turned on the TV and Earnest Angley was on. Then he changed the channel and Roller Derby from the Akron Armory was on it. He said he was pretty sure folks down there must have thought that Akron was the cultural capitol of the world. Z.I.P.
GT just posted an article saying no new sports will be added. Its apparently more of an announcement as to what future goals are. GT was absolutely WRONG!!! UA will be expanding their athletic department -- by joining the Lumberjacks of NAU in NCAA Pro Wrestling! MaxZIP
When is the big announcement?
Dave in Green
As I said earlier, look for the announcement to be made late Monday morning, sometime before noon. If not in the next 45 minutes, then most likely early afternoon.

Dave in Green
Maybe what I overheard was the timing of the announcement internally at UA. Obviously the public announcement is coming in the afternoon.
legendofzippy
Is it Impact 2020? I assume that's it. Not very exciting at all.
Zipmeister
Maybe what I overheard was the timing of the announcement internally at UA. Obviously the public announcement is coming in the afternoon. Maybe they were thinking Mountain time. That means we should hear something in the next 52 minutes. LZIp
Is it Impact 2020? I assume that's it. Not very exciting at all. Looks like it. Pretty broad, which makes it uninteresting to me. I'm sure every athletic department has those goals. Give us specifics.
zippy5
Well it did mention new or renovated arena by 2020, so that was semi-specific/interesting
lance99
So I was a little off: Zips Athletics Unveils IMPACT 2020 So basically this was the big news!? It was items that most of is already knew.
zippy5
I don't think anyone labeled it as big news
Dave in Green
They set some pretty specific goals, including citing numbers for championships won, dollars raised, etc., so now there are numbers with which to measure their actual performance. That's a good first step. But it's generally unexciting news for fans who are more interested in seeing, for example, an artist rendering of a potential new basketball arena. ZachTheZip
The ZipsAthletics Youtube account just uploaded about 30 videos of various athletics personnel discussing this thing. It would be great if they would make it into a playlist, to make it easy to just watch all at once.
Dave in Green
There are some specific statements in there that address issues we've been debating on ZN.o. For example, the statement that "We will compete at the highest level of intercollegiate athletics" should put an end to the discussion here about dropping down to a lower level in football. It's now in the master plan to remain at the highest level available to UA.

That's a good first step. But it's generally unexciting news for fans who are more interested in seeing, for example, an artist rendering of a potential new basketball arena. Did they give any specifics on how our minor sports teams will be able to compete at the highest level while being funded at the lowest level. Now that would be news. GP1
Now DiG, you know very well that facts have never put an end to discussions on this board. Dave chooses his words wisely. Note his last sentence. If the BCS schools ever go on their merry way, we will still be competing at the highest level available to UofA. legendofzippy
Well it did mention new or renovated arena by 2020, so that was semi-specific/interesting If I read it correctly, it only promised a facility plan by 2020. Anyone else interpret it that way? It's a neat bit of marketing material, but not much beyond that. There's no way to guarantee all those conference championships for example. You're probably right, I didn't double check the wording before I posted. If so, not very exciting. Would have expected that anyway
