This game is exactly what the Oral Roberts board was talking about when they said that a disciplined team with equal talent would beat us easily. Iowa State is not any more talented than we are. They do the basics very well, ie...run the break, rebound, move the ball for good shots and most importantly hit free throws.

The Cyclones are running faster than the Zips and working harder, but they're not tired out. Running teams are better conditioned than halfcourt teams. It's the same reason that VCU can run the Zips into the ground. I've said it before and I'll say it again. The Zips lack the physical conditioning of the top teams. They run out of gas while their opponent is running wild.

I did not get to see the game, but from what I've heard they gave up midway through the second half. Correct or nah?

Poor shot selection lead to many easy run-outs. Lazy defense. It got out of hand quickly.

Iowa State is a really good team, but we didn't bring our A-game. Or our B-game for that matter.

I like both McAdams and Kretzer and they both certainly have value to the team but I am of the opinion that Reggie needs to be getting more minutes than Jake. JK may be a slightly better scorer (although I am not sure on that one) but RM is a better ball handler, passer, and even defender in my opinion. They both deserve minutes but it seems to me that Kretzer is getting more time than Reggie and I think it should be reversed.

Iowa State is a good team. I enjoy their style of play. Well coached team. I'm not sure I have seen a team go out of their way to help the opposition after the whistle the way they did. Enjoyed the announcing, every observation they made about the Zips seemed to be correct. I saw some positive things from our Zips that I think they can build on. Can somebody tell me what kind of offense they were playing tonight..other than predictable high passing around the permitter? Where is the simple cutting toward the rim? Terrible offensive game plan. Players need a chance to work harder on offense. Team defense looked like they were tired second half.

The one good thing that comes out of it is that I think the only one we lose next year is Q, everyone else will be back and better than this year.

There's always next year...

Only in Cleveland and Akron are they looking forward to the next season when it's only 1/3rd of the way through the present season.

Presently, Q is our second best player. And 3rd best isn't anywhere near him. So I would like to enjoy this season because you are only one surprise 5lb bale of weed away from any season going in the crapper.

Bottom Line: Iowa State's players moved REALLY well WITHOUT the ball. Made it very difficult to defend them. They just had great quickness cutting to the basket. Not a lot you can do about that.

But, the part that pissed me off was that we had a TOTAL LAPSE when it came to blocking out when they did miss from close range. That's mental. It doesn't take a great deal of talent to remember to get a body on someone when the ball is in the air.

DO NOT BRING UP THE WEED.

Those are memories I can live without. Excuse me while I let my blood pressure get back to normal.

The season will be fine, today's opponent was not exact MAC caliber.

And the POINT was that we have some freshman talent that is not quite ready for Prime Time, but WILL be.

And with one exception, the same guys will be playing together next year, which is very positive.

I'm not ready to think about next season. I have confidence in Coach Dambrot bringing in a steady stream of talent. But after each season starts I file that away under future assumptions and focus on the present. The Zips have two tough games on the road coming up over the next few days. I want to see how resilient they are. You know, a couple of weeks ago we thought the Zips were never going to come together enough to beat anyone. Then they started beating some mid-level teams and we started getting more optimistic. Now we know they haven't come together to the point of beating the #14 team in the country at this point in the season and that makes us a little pessimistic. I don't think the Zips are done improving. Let's see how good they can get and how fast they can get there.
