I thought Harney had a good game. Every time he got the ball he went to the basket. He made things happen and had some nice passes.

Bentacourt wakes up from the dead. He played really good defense. He made some nice passes and hussled his butt off. He played smart. When he drove the lane and went off his feet he always found the open man. He outplayed Evens who jacked up some awful threes and on a crucial last possession had no idea that there is a time clock in college basketball.

Love watching Big Dog play tonight. Would like to see him get more minutes. Pat also played well

The one player who always brings intensity to the court is Tree. Well, almost always. Did not show a great amount of intensity tonight. Kept settling for the outside shot. Teams are now doubling him and he threw the ball away. Q also did not have a good game. His shot was off. Had some nice drives at the end of the game and a banked 3. If Q and Tree are both off Keith indicated this team is in trouble. This team was in trouble tonight.

Kretzer, could not bother to come to the ball on the next to last possession and it was an easy steal and dunk for Marshall. He looked surprised that a Marshall player would jump into the passing lane to steal the pass. Showed no hustle after the ball was stolen.

Reggie had a nice drive to the basket on a fast break Need him to get to the basket.

The most fun I had tonight was watching the Marshall coach. This is one animated guy. He was after the refs all evening.

Pat plays hard, but misses a lot of shots from point blank range. Also has trouble getting his hands around rebounds. Sorry. Very frustrating. He misses so many opportunities to contribute more.

Especially on the offensive end, I'd MUCH rather have Big Dog on the floor, or the Harney/Kretzer/Treadwell front line.

Now that OOC play is concluded, I believe the most urgent (and potentially rewarding) issue the coaching staff should focus on is Carmelo Betancourt’s confidence, particularly with his shooting. As “Zips Win!” points out, he should be shooting 3-pointers in every spare moment of his day. I would add FTs to his agenda. If he can get up to 25-30% from behind the arc and 70% from the line, the PG situation will largely be solved. I’m sure he works on these deficiencies already, but a heightened level of urgency wouldn’t hurt.

I really thought, based on his respectable showing earlier in the game last night, CB12 should have been on the floor with the Zips trying to nurse a 7 point lead down the stretch. KD finally put him in, but not until the Diggs isolation monotony had almost cost UA the game.

There is a PG mentality bred into players who play the position from an early age. CB12 has shown that he enjoys distributing the ball and setting up others for the easy basket. He is also, far and away, the most reliable ball handler on the roster. In my opinion, these are not traits that can be instilled in players who have not played the position to any great extent over their careers.

The OOC schedule was a bit unusual from the standpoint that the only game with less than a 9 point margin in final score was the Marshall game. We will surely (OK, I’ll stop calling you “Shirley”) witness more games like this in MAC play, and we better have a reliable ball handler in during crunch time or most of these games will slip away from us.

I’m not saying Evans and Diggs can’t provide PG minutes as needed. But if this team wants to compete for a MAC championship this year, the most likely scenario is for CB12 to gain some confidence in shooting the basketball and take over as the unquestioned, primary PG. This is the best option this season AND next season. So come on, Melo! You can do this! Go Zips!!!

While he is at it, can he add layups? Only I can miss layups the way he does. He actually passes out of layup situations after missing a few. He has the speed to beat people to the rim, but has a finishing issue. Someone needs to show him the art of a reverse layup, that may increase his confidence. If the Zips team were a video game, and I had 10 units of "health" to distribute to improve the team, I'm not sure I would use one on CB, I would distribute elsewhere. BTW, that is the worst Marshall team that I have watched at the JAR, what happen? They used to have athletes that would shoot the lights out when they played in the MAC. Disappointing.

I like the introduction of Akron's own Shawn "Showtime" Porter last night, who knew? He signed autographs after the game, anybody get one?
