Dr Z
Two of my favorite things in life are sports and art. I really enjoy when the two combine with each other. I was wondering if there were other fans that would like to start a thread. Feel free to include pertinent links below. One of my favorite photographers just posted his images of the year here. For those of you that live in the area Scott had some stuff at the football HOF the last time I went. UCLA had Flea play the national anthem before a game last week. GP1
I went to the Panthers game yesterday and the national anthem was outstanding. The crowd gave the guy a great ovation. Listen

K92
I was at the race in Talladega one year when he played the Star Spangled Banner. It definitely struck a chord with the crowd.

GP1
Dr Z makes a good point about art. Art is supposed to be emotionally powerful. In many ways, producers of television are types of artists. In the football game case, they provide a bunch of different visuals to go along with the music that makes it dramatic and emotionally stirring. From where I stood, 100 yards away in the second level on the 10 yard line, the visual was not the art you saw in the video. The music was great. From so far away, the trumpet player is just a spec of a human standing in the end zone. The flag looked heavy to hold and the soldiers were just a single row of about 8 guys in the middle of 65,000. The players all look the same standing on the sidelines and the intensity is not observable. FOX took a lot of very ordinary looking things and made it look extra ordinary. Very interesting the difference between being there and watching it on TV. It's also funny what you don't get to see on TV. We went into the game early because we got into town earlier than we had though. While walking in the concourse of the upper level, you can see into the Panthers practice field. The people who hold the flag have to show up long before the game and practice what they do. It's funny how organized they can get all of those people to be in an hour. They also have to carry the flag from the practice field into the stadium, which is funny to watch.
Buckzip
Nothing will ever beat Whitney Houston singing the National Anthem. IMHO.
GP1
As far as I'm concerned, this little comedy sketch is art. Well worth three minutes. Link
