Saw a post on the Bobcats board where someone was looking ahead to next season and thought their freshman center would be helped by the departures of McCrea, Whittington and Tree. Didn't have the heart to tell him. Don't think the Zips fear WMU at all. Tomorrow should be another good one.

Bobcat fans blaming the refs. Unbelievable. We got no help from the officials, and I think they were even avoiding calls on OU so it didn't get further out of hand. If one team fouls the other team way more often, they'll get called way more often.

We got to the line 22 more times than they did, and they at least have a case that the refs missed a goaltend late in the second half. I won't go as far as to say it was a hose job against OU, but the refs were certainly not in their corner.

We went to the line more because we kept feeding the ball into the paint. That was intentional.

That last five minutes by Betancourt was the best he played this season.

I just want to thank You Know Who for not calling him "BENTACOURT" (yet)! ;)

And, before taking a detour to Bobkittienation.com, I just want to tell Zipsnation how excited I am, that I will have the pleasure of RE-USING my Giant Zips Heads when the Kittens take the floor for next year's Diamond Head Classic!!! If Coach Christian's charges hadn't blown another Akron game, I probably couldn't have gotten away with that.

Correction: A few fans are blaming the referees. But they always blame the referees, so please ignore them. Akron deserved the large disparity in FTA. Yes, the referees blew an interference call, but it did not change the outcome. And it's not nearly as egregious as missing JR Sims out of bounds last night.

Happens here lots too.

Losing is not easy, when it happens, and it's harder when it's in the tourney.

I thought for sure Ndour's foot was over the 3-point line and jumped out of my seat when all three points were awarded.

Then after the time out the ref's huddled to look at it and when it showed on the screen I almost covered my brow in shame for being so sure it was some sort of injustice. It wasn't nearly as bad as I had thought.

In actuality, his toes did roll over the line before the ball left his fingers, but there's no way the point should have been taken away.

I can understand that the refs missed that call where (was it?) Tree hit the underside of the backboard trying for the block -- it happened a second or two before the ball went through, and it's so rare that the refs can miss something like that rather easily. HOWEVER -- to play devil's advocate: The goaltending called on Can't State in the first half of last Friday's game was one of the worst missed calls I've seen all season -- as the announcers said, the ball not only wasn't in the cylinder, but HALF of the ball was below the rim when it was rebounded! But, hey -- that's what we call "ancient history", eh Zippers?

Obviously, it wasn't a big deal in the end.

But....if you say his toes rolled over the line while it was still in contact with a finger, then it should NOT have counted. So, don't hesitate to say that it should not have been take away. :nono:

It was too close to change. I wouldn't have reversed it and you know who I'm rooting for

HAHAHAHAHA I love one of the comments I saw on the Bobkitten board: "I'd rather be a Bobcat fan and lose than be an Akron fan and win"

Okay brother...have it your way. Why can't we all just get along!? I cheer for Ohio when they're playing outside of conference, or Can't because its only to our benefit...

It's such a nice feeling sending the kitties home again.

On another note, I actually (almost) was sad seeing Kellogg check out on his career. The total anti-Cooper. Hats off to a great career, would love a team of Nick Kelloggs.

Kellogg played his heart out tonight. I'll tip my hat to him. Like you said. The anti-Cooper. No flash, no trash talking, no hero ball. Just goes out and plays the game. He just got no support late in the game.

The foul disparity is a little bogus. OU was called for 22 PFs and the Zips 15. But 4 of the OU PFs were called in the last 47 seconds when they were deliberately fouling and sending Zips to the line for 2 foul shots. Take those out and the difference was not significant.

It sure is painful to sit through these games where the Zips trail the whole way. There's just not a lot to cheer about or get excited about until the end. But boy is it fun to celebrate wins after spending a whole game wondering if a win is possible. I guess it's just a characteristic of this team that you have to get used to. You have to learn not to get worried when the Zips are behind because they usually find an unexpected way to claw their way back. Who would have imagined what Melo did over those last few minutes? I think I'm more worn out than the players, but looking forward to seeing what the Zips come up with against WMU. I saw Coach Dambrot sitting in the stands watching the Buffalo/EMU game as we left the Q, and I just looked at him, shook my head and kept slapping my hand against my heart as if it was jumping out of my chest. He just smiled.

Amazing stat of the night: Coach Dambrot said in his post-game interview that this season's team, which has been much maligned for making so many turnovers, actually averaged fewer turnovers per game than last season's team. Much as I trust Coach Dambrot, you know I had to fact check him on that one. So, without further commentary, here are the raw numbers:

13.9 turnovers per game = 2012-2013 Zips team

13.2 turnovers per game = 2013-2014 Zips team
