ZachTheZip
You think the players want to play in the CBI?I hope so. If they don't enjoy playing more basketball, they shouldn't be on scholarship.I'd like to see the team win one of these small tournaments and send Q out with a win. skip-zip
Speaking of winning one of these "other" tournaments, what would it mean to us to win the CBI ?? We have discussed the value of going to the Final 4 of the NIT or winning the NIT many times over the years, but never the CBI.
UAZip0510
With everyone but Diggs back next year, I can't see how more games against solid competition could possibly be a bad thing.

For a young team, it means that the team is heading in a positive direction. It won't help with recruiting, and it won't sell tickets. But it will help the players, and it lets Q go out on a positive note.
GJGood
I actually disagree with teams #100- 351 being in the CBI and CiT. The "old boys club" NIT selection committee emphasizes the power (BCS) conferences and fringe power conferences like the A-10 and MWC and will likely put in a few teams from those type programs even when there are a generous handful of true mid-majors that are as good or better available. So yes the CBI and CiT fight for teams starting at pick #100 but rarely, if ever, is the best rated team in a tourney like the CBI worse than #100 in reality. My 'test teams' this year to see how the selection committees are doing are UW-Green Bay and Southern Miss. I really think they should both be NCAA at-large teams. USM has a legit shot but I think UWGB not only will get snubbed by the NCAA but will also be seeded in the bottom half of the NIT, Toledo isn't terribly far off from UWGB so it will also be interesting to see where the Rockets end up. Dave in Green
@GJGood, I didn't mean the NCAA and NIT tournaments got the best 100 teams. I meant they got to pick the first 100 of the 351 available D-I teams before the CBI and CIT get to pick theirs. There will be teams in the CBI and CIT that could beat up on some of the NCAA and NIT teams. As for whether the players want to compete in the CBI or CIT, I can't believe there are any prima donnas on the team who think playing in a lesser tournament is beneath them. In the unlikely case there is, let them stay home and just take the players who want to play basketball anywhere, anytime, against any competition. Those are the only kind of players I want to watch anyway.
Dave in Green
I didn't know that a team as experienced asnours was still getting to know each other. Seems strange to take a quote about one thing and apply it to another. But then again, you struggle with statistical analysis as well so this shouldn't be a surprise. How did I know you wouldn't get it. Surprised you didn't spring the ultimate GP1 insult -- 1950s thinking.
Big Zip
CBI and CIT start on Wednesday so we've got to know pretty soon if we're playing right?
Dave in Green
CBI and CIT start locking in teams as soon as the NCAA and NIT fields are announced.
GJGood
I believe I read that our arch rivals already accepted a bid to the CIT. If they got in after finishing 9th in the MAC, I'd think it looks good for us. I still kind of hope what I read was wrong, not because it is our rival but because somebody more desrving will certainly not get in. GJGood
Now the statement above I made seems not to be the case. You can't trust everything you read on the internet.

Big Zip
UWGB is a huge test. The NCAA show couldn't stop talking about them on their show....how they should have been in the dance.
mrelegazna
UWGB is a huge test. The NCAA show couldn't stop talking about them on their show....how they should have been in the dance. That tweet was from 2010 when we played them. Not sure akronzips71 is pranking or didn't notice. As regular season conference champ, UWGB is automatically in the NIT.

Dave in Green
Several teams have already accepted bids to this year's CBI and CIT. You can see them by searching over the past 24 hours. Just make sure any mention of Akron says 2014 before posting here.

tpsjugglerdude
Sources? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_CollegeInsider.com_Postseason_TournamentAnd for anyone who is saying that players will be up for these tournaments probably didn't go to the Green Bay game a few years ago when we were in the CBI. The players were pretty open in saying they didn't want to play in it and they lost to a bad team.

mrelegazna
Would anyone here, if they had their druthers, turn down a CIT/CBI bid? I'm wondering if, if what TSPjugglerdude says is true, it would be better if they fostered an all-or-nothing, NCAA-or-bust attitude in regards to postseason tournaments.
