Captain Kangaroo
Abreu acquired 5 pounds of pot with the intent to distribute during his team's run towards a MAC Championship and an NCAA appearance. Some teammate. It is the lazy way out to take him back. Find another point guard and move on.To equate Dambrot's ignorant tongue slip with drug dealing is fairly stupid. Try an analogy with Kevin Mackey firing up a rock of crack with a hooker. Not the same, but it's closer. If Abreu is welcomed back to UA after his 5lb escapade, and his other suspensions, I'm not going to burn down Buchtel Hall. But I will be disappointed. Help the kid find another team to accept him and his baggage for a season. But time at UA should be expired.I'd rather lose with Betancourt than win with Abreu. And we won 21 games with Betancourt this season. If he could develop any kind of offensive game, we could easily win 23-25 next season. And not have to worry about him putting on 15 lbs of fat, or celebrating Cinco de Poundo Viernes. UAZip0510
Never forget - while the situations are not the same, this program's turnaround is all because UA decided to give another man who made a big mistake a second chance. To equate Dambrot's ignorant tongue slip with drug dealing is fairly stupid. Did you miss the part where I said the situations are not the same? The point is that Dambrot believes in second chances because his success at UA is based on one, which applies directly to this situation. From the article:After his point guard, Alex Abreu, was suspended just before the conference tournament on marijuana trafficking charges, Dambrot told the Plain Dealer’s Terry Pluto: “We all make bad decisions. I have made some. I have become a more forgiving and compassionate person in my heart over the years.”
Dave in Green
If anyone has factual information about someone violating any laws, it's their civic duty to report it to proper authorities. Anonymously smearing someone with unsubstantiated innuendo on a public forum is not the mark of a good citizen. It's a sign of really poor judgment. Dave in Green
@GP1, try reading the last few posts again for context after you sober up. It should be a little clearer to you then, unless you do your best thinking when you're drinking. In that case I'm not sure it would ever make sense to you. I'd appreciate it if my posts weren't continually taken out of context.Thanks.
mrelegazna
Put me in the camp of, "I want the best for Alex, hope he turns his life around (if he hasn't already), the people bashing him from their high horse in this thread are loathesome, and I do not want him back on this team."Framing this as "Does he or does he not deserve a second chance at Akron?" misses a third option: Abreu getting a chance at another school. Just looking at struggling low-majors in the Midwest, I'm sure he could be a big upgrade (disclaimer: I don't know these teams' point guard situations) at IUPUI, UIC, or Western Illinois, for example. It would give him a fresh start and the school would not have a baggage-laden past with him. That's what I hope happens, and if it does I will be rooting for him and his team. VAZip
Absolutely not...not because he doesn't deserve a second chance, but because all the ill prepared announcers on TV will only talk about that all year. One good point...it might replace the Coach D coached LeBron thing, that gets old
ZipFrom86
No. Had his chance, now move on. Continue searching for talented players with character. I do hope he gets his life in order.
