I spoke to someone at UA today. They say they are lobbying for an afternoon game, but it will be up to ESPN.

I told the guy I was hoping for a night game, and he acted somewhat shocked.

I said: "Those late evening Marshall games 8 to 12 years ago were awesome sporting environments. Beyond that, people can take care of their business during the day...do whatever family/kids/house stuff you need to take care of...and then focus on the Zips in the evening. There's too much competition for the Zips attention on a Saturday afternoon. Unless you have no kids."

In Columbus, community kids stuff is scheduled around Ohio State games. And if 30,000 families can't attend the OSU games, there's another 30,000 waiting to take their place. Not so in Akron.

In 5 years, when my kid's in college, I won't care. But for now I love Saturday evening Zips games.

It's not about you.

Penn State is "ranked" #31 in the AP poll, Marshall is close behind at #34. Pitt is #41.

Give me three teams on the schedule every year ranked 31, 34, and 41. Perfect! :thumb:

Every time I think of Marshall I remember sitting at the Rubber Bowl and watching the offensive lineman carrying Leftwich down the field.

That was a great game. I think it was the first game I ever took my son to.

I was pretty excited to watch college football Saturday, so I turned on ESPN College Gameday. Holy smokes, is that thing unwatchable with the girl cheerleaders constantly screaming in the background. They are louder than Herbstreit most of the time. It's so annoying I had to turn it off. Message to ESPN, mic down the annoying cheerleaders.

I made it long enough to see this piece on Marshall QB Rakeem Cato, it is worth watching in my opinion.

Early forecast is calling for 78 degrees Saturday. Possible late day shower.

I thought I was the only person who found it unwatchable. Three hours is a bit much for a college football pre game show is a bit much.

The only thing that was awesome about it was watching/listening to Desmond Howard rip apart the "redemption" story about Everett Golson (Redemption stories and kids with cancer stories are common stories thrown into ESPN programming when the programs are too long. I know kids get cancer. It's an awful thing and makes me sad. I don't want to see stories about it before college football games so I always turn them off). For those of you who don't know, Everett Golson is the ND QB who was kicked out of school. As part of his redemption story, we learned that he spent 15 weeks in San Diego practicing football (all the while, dramatic music is pumped into the story to make the hardship seem harder)....Not the Arctic Circle or even his home town of Myrtle Beach, but probably the most beautiful city in the US....San Freaking Diego. We should all be so lucky to get a punishment that results in us spending 15 weeks in San Diego playing football on the beach. Then he spent a few weeks freeloading off of his uncle in Chicago. Most kids have a more difficult time taking a year off and traveling Europe.

Zips open as 11 point underdogs.

Interesting line movement, went up to 12.5-13 early, now has come down as low as 10. Prediction: if Zips DB's/LB's wander around the field out of their zones while the QB still has the ball: Marshall 42, Zips 28; otherwise, Zips 28, Marshall 27. Go Zips!

Marshall of 10 years ago is still Marshall now. Fast, game-breaker wide receivers. Big-play offense. Their RB's AVERAGE 6.7 yards/carry. Their WR's AVERAGE 17.3 yards/catch. By contrast the Zips average 3.4 yards/carry, and 11.7 yards/completion.

Lee Owens beat Marshall a couple times with defenses FAR less talented than the 2014 Zips. But Paul Winters' offense could keep up with a lot of teams.

Marshall's undisciplined play and swagger has historically cost them against the Zips. It will be interesting to see what Bowden has in-store for the Herd. A conservative "Penn State" game plan, where the Zips try to control the clock and let the defense harass Cato, who's only completing 57% of his passes. Or a shoot-out, "Michigan" game plan where LT Smith gets some deep balls, and Pratt actually makes a showing in the box score.

How much Hakeem Lawrence do we see this week? I'll guess 5X more than we saw last week.

I don't see how a Penn State game plan works against the Herd. We won't be able to keep up, unless we get a ton of turnovers.

Whatever color Coach Bowden's hair is this week, I hope he let's it down and slings the ball like it's 2012!

I've been doing a lot of thinking about Bowden's hair color from the PSU game. The only conclusion I have come to is he is wearing an alternative hair color like teams are wearing alternative uniforms. It's the only thing that makes sense to me.

If he went blonde this week, that would be the coolest!
