Aaron Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 The only MAC school I see winning any area in the country is Northern Illinois, which has a top of somewhere around 12%. MAC doesn't have a very good facebook presence it seems, since this map is based on facebook likes.I wonder if they included Cincinnati Bearcats as a possibility, since it looks like the Bearcats aren't even in 3rd place in the Cincy area. Sad state of affairs in B1G country. Quote
Dave in Green Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 One minor victory is that the Zips rank 2nd or 3rd in 5 counties while Can't is 2nd or 3rd in just 2 counties. Quote
zen Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Very cool map. Entire country down to the zip code. Had to be a big project.Hard to knock it knowing how much effort it probably took, but I am also not convinced the source data is accurate. It doesn't seem representative. Why would the Cincy Bearcats not register?Something tells me the sample size is too small. Quote
InTheZone Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Toledo is the 3rd favorite school in their own city, and not listed anywhere else. Ouch. Quote
zippy5 Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 On one hand, it stinks we aren't the most popular in any zip code. On the other hand, we're higher than Can't in every zip code but one.. and top 3 in a much wider area. Quote

Dave in Green Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Athens County has a total population of about 64,000. There are probably close to 30,000 students (undergraduate and graduate), professors, support staff and other employees on the campus alone. Then there are all the people in the county who earn a large chunk of their incomes from OU-related business. OU should own that county.EDIT: Athens zip code is 45701. Looks like tOSU is 62% and OU is 14%. Athens County is 51% tOSU and 29.5% OU. Quote

Dave in Green Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Yeah, I don't know what I was looking at, Ohio doesn't lead any counties. The Wikipedia entry for Ohio University specifically warns:Not to be confused with Ohio State University. 1 Quote
Zip_ME87 Posted October 3, 2014 Report Posted October 3, 2014 Try Cincinnati. Unless I wasn't putting my cursor in the right places, I couldn't find where the Bearcats were even in the top 3. tOSWho Meatchicken Kenyucky No CinscumnatiEDIT: Oops, I forgot Loserville Quote
Balsy Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Sample size definitely too small. And: This map is basically a bunch of giant bandwagons. Quote
Zipmeister Posted October 4, 2014 Report Posted October 4, 2014 Sample size definitely too small. And: This map is basically a bunch of giant bandwagons. What in the world would lead you to conclude the sample size was too small?Whatever it is, don't tell your stats professor you believe that.Inspection of the entire link (especially the bottom) will reveal that the guys who put the maps together just forgot to include several schools.
