70 teams currently eligible (if you exclude Georgia Southern and App St). The winners of Northwestern-Illinois and Virginia-Virginia Tech will become eligible and the losers will be eliminated.

Therefore, you essentially have 72 teams eligible and 38 teams eliminated.

I don't understand your math Staton...

There were 14 spots open before games opened yesterday. By my count, Houston, Mid Tenn St, Standford, Florida, W. Kentucky, S. Carolina, and Arkansas all became elligible yesterday. (7 teams)...meaning there should still be 7 left right?

I think he is counting the games where there will be eligibility earned by default next week (ex. Virginia and VT). But there are going to be enough bowl teams eligible (has there ever not?). I think its more important to pay attention to our tie-ins...

Michigan lost to Maryland last night. They have to beat OSU to become bowl eligible. This is more good news for the Quick Lane bowl. Hopefully Miami comes through next week and beats Pitt.

Where it gets iffy, is that its hard to find if for say, the Quick Lane bowls gets the #4 pick of an ACC team or the #10 pick of an ACC team. If they get the #10 pick, then good, they might not have a choice other than to pick a MAC team. However, if they pick higher, then they can just pick another ACC team.

Yes, I was including spots that will be filled by default in games next week. And there is almost always enough teams but sometimes just barely, which would help our chances.

Go Miami go. Never thought Id say that. Them beating OU virtually guarantees us a bowl bid IMO.

Not unless we beat Can't it doesn't. Miami up 21-7 in the 3rd quarter.

Thanks for pointing that out. I probably shouldn't get ahead of myself considering some of the results this season.

How does it virtually give us a bowl (assuming we take care of business against Can't)? MAC has contracts with five bowls, there are five teams in the MAC who have better records than us...

I've went over all our of possible secondary tie-ins along with the number of eligible teams of each conference affiliated with the bowl on the previous page(s). I'm 95% sure a MAC team is going to the Quick Lane Bowl as long as what most likely will play out, does. The others, I'm not so sure, but there is a chance the MAC gets a 7th bid as well.

The MAC has a bunch of back-up contracts with other bowls.

For those who care what bowl projections say, I do not see Akron listed on ESPN's or CBSSports, both of which they were on last week. I did not see Ohio, either.

I also checked SportingNews, Phil Steele, and SBNation. The only one that has Ohio or Akron, is SBNation, which has us in the Camelia Bowl vs Texas St.

And Ohio becomes bowl eligible as Miami chokes away a first half lead as badly as the Zips did against Penn State (sigh).

Yep. Not a good night. I still give us a 50% chance of getting selected. Root for FSU and root for Miami to beat Pitt to keep the ACC with the least amount of bids as possible. It would be a lot easier to predict if we knew where each bowl was in the picking order.
