Looking Ahead to 2015

I'll only comment on the content of the video, since Dr Z has already hit on the technical aspects.

This seems to be geared to recruits, with all of the focus on the capability of the coaching staff. Listing all the NFL players who were ever coached by any of these guys seemed a little over the top to me, but it's probably not a bad strategy if trying to appeal to a high school player. In the same vain, discussing TB's career at Auburn may still have merit. But I, for one, am tired of hearing about it. The only time I want to hear Auburn mentioned from now on is if we're on their schedule or if we're getting one of their players via transfer :thumb:

I could do without the bit on Jim Tressel. No mention of Heisman?

Good Call. Our connection to Heisman is really our greatest link to fame and football history.

Tressel? As always, I don't really want anything to do with being connected to someone like that. But since this would be used to attract fans in this area, and so many of them are blOSU honks who still think the guy is a saint, it might actually be worthwhile to put him in there.

Skip, I think this represents a healthy attitude. UA should try to leverage Jim Tressel's name and anything else associated with tOSU to help attract more fans. They just need to carefully think out each move for maximum positive and minimum negative impact. As disgusting as it is to see fans at Zips games dressed in tOSU gear, it's still better than if those fans stayed home instead. Let's try to get more tOSU fans to Zips games, and instead of making them feel unwelcome for not wearing Zips colors, try to win them over by expressing our appreciation that they're also supporting the Zips by attending games.

Dave, I was with you on the first couple of sentences, then you lost me.

Let me tell you a story. One of my wife's friends came in from out of state last year for our first football game. She's a graduate of a smaller D-1A school down south that lives in the shadow of the "bigger' programs, just like we do. Her dad is a legend at this school. She knows football like no other female I know, and has traveled all of over the country for decades to D-1A college games, both big and small.

Anyway...she was ABSOLUTELY SHOCKED that our fans were not color coordinated. It's the very first thing she noticed when she saw the crowd, and she made me stand up and look around. I probably never noticed it before, but she was right !! It's probably been like that for a long time. The crowd truly looked like a container of Crayola crayons.

So, I ask myself......is it really asking much for someone to put on a Blue shirt before they come to our game? Even if they don't have any Zips gear? I don't think people need to be heckled or called out for doing otherwise. But when you see those people consciously show up to one of our events, with a red and silver hat, jacket, pants, scarf, etc., I have a hard time believing that these were the only clothes they owned. They may have even actually wanted to antagonize people.

My sister and her husband are Akron grads, but they are serious OSU Honks (they live in Cowlumbus). But whenever they come back here for a game to reunite with old sorority and fraternity friends, they ALWAYS wear blue. They would never wear OSU gear into any Akron game.

In addition, do you really think blOSU fans even want to go to Akron games? I think 99% of them would stay home and watch the Suckeyes on TV. Most of them think we are high school quality football. In fact, my experiences taking fans of any "big' program to an Akron game involved them spending the entire night telling me how everything we do is "bush league" compared to their school, even if I took them to the Club Level or to the Suites.

Just my thoughts.

The attitude with some fans is truly scary. 2 years ago a young lady and her boy friend were standing in the aisle about 8 rows from I sit. She was wearing tOSU & he was wearing Michigan garb. she walked past me and I blatantly told that this was a Zips game and the Suckeyes were not playing here. Her response was " Don't worry honey, I go to school here".

It just goes to show that our students don't give a damn.

Would purple be okay?

Skip, what I'm talking about is a 3-phase deliberate process that would take time and patience, and would work with some and not others but is more likely to be successful than trying to shame new fans for not wearing Zips colors:

1. Use creative schemes to attract any additional fans to Zips games and get more butts in seats, including tOSU fans or fans of any other teams who like to display those teams' colors; 2. Don't chase them off by pissing on them for not wearing Zips colors; 3. Try to win them over in a positive way to want to attend Zips games wearing Zips colors.

I hear you Dave. I wonder if it would work? Maybe it could.

I wasn't really trying to refute what you were saying in my last post. I just got on a roll and started spitting out my experiences in regards to fans being at our games who are not Akron fans. I hope it was informative :D

There have been more views of the Facebook post on Monday night than any other post in Zips sports history.

Conclusion: Our own graduates who are OSU Honks far outnumber those who remain Zips sports fans. IF they ever did become a Zips sport fan at all while they were here.

The Silver Lining?.....a whopping 92 people from that same Facebook group have LIKED the Akron Pride Day post B)

I could say that this answers a lot of questions, but I think we're all well aware of the challenges we have already.
