TXZipFan
How long will Charlie get to play in the Browns first pre-season game tonight?Good luck to him... hope he looks good tonight!!!
ZachTheZip
I beleive I heard coach Crennel say Frye would play about 1 Quarter so the backups could get as much time as possible.
Dan Kadar
He'll probably play 12-15 plays. We'll see how demolished he gets with this guy they got off the street to play center.By the way, I'm sure everyone knows that that weiner of a center Bob Hallen is retiring tomorrow and that he's from Can't State. I guess I shouldn't really be surprised too much that he's gutless. Stupid Flushes.
Dale Carnegie
Cribbs looked good though. I really like him a lot and it doesn't bother me that he's from Can't. It helps Akron because he's a MAC player in the NFL.

Sometimes I swear he throws better on the run than with planted feet.I sure hope Crennel doesn't try to force him to be a pocket passer again this season. Quickzips
Air it out Charlie! Throw it downfield! He can't when every play that gets called is a 3-step drop dumpoff route to the TE. Seriously. Mo Carthon has to be the most uncreative spineless OC in the NFL. The only guy he let air it out at all was the 4th stringer Campbell. ZachTheZip
Campbell is a better QB than Dorsey and Anderson combined, and I've felt that way since camp started. Dorsey can't feel the pressure, and gets sacked every time someone breaks through the O-line. Anderson just can't throw. Frye should be Starter with Campbell as his immediate back-up. Oh yeah, before I forget, the Browns have the WORST offensive coordinator in all of football (NFL, CFL, College, Highschool, ect.) in Mo Carthon. zipsbandman
With no oline this season combined with panzy offensive playcalling, the Browns offense is going to suck.
GP1
DrZ is 100% correct. If Frye is going to have any success in the NFL, he must throw the ball down field.Campbell will not be the back up. Here is my prediction:The Jets have three former starting QBs in camp this summer with one rookie. Only three will make the team. Chad Pennington, Kellen Clemens ®, Brooks Bollinger and Pat Ramsey. The competition for the roster spot is between Bollinger and Ramsey. Pennington will make the team since he has been there so long and the Clemens will make it because he is a rookie and they can make him the third QB and not pay him a lot. The loser between Bollinger and Ramsey gets a one-way, all expenses paid trip and an apartment in Berea to Cleveland where one of them will cry himself to sleep every night wondering what he did to make the football Gods angry with him. When this happens, the poop will hit the fan around Cleveland.

Pat said he recognized about 4 different scoutsat their paid scrimmage (difference being, if it is paid, scouts can attend, if it's free they can not)I went and looked to see if Pat wrote something on the Browns and Frye after his visit. He did (click here for Pat's view on Charlie and Co)

Interesting, I should get my own radio show. It clicked for me one day while watching an ESPN story on the Jets at the gym and I thought to myself, "GP1, one of those guys will end up with the Browns before all is said and done." The question is whether either of those two will want to come to Cleveland given they can go with any team they wish at that point. The only upside the Browns could sell to either is the potential of starting in Cleveland. Other than that, they could go back up with a good team in a really nice climate. The Browns will have to pick up a cut. I can't remember a time when there was such a lack of talent at the QB position in the NFL and no NFL team is going to give up a decent back-up QB in a trade. Especially since the Browns really have nothing to give up. A winning NFL QB must stand in the pocket and throw most of the time. Frye must do this to succeed long term. Scrambling leads to nothing but confusion and holding penalties. Guys like Mike Vick never win anything in the NFL because they either get killed running around, or their running is supposed to make up for their lack of throwing ability and it always backfires. I agree that the play calling was conservative last year, AND, so were the plays called for Frye in the first quarter of this preseason game, BUT they were airing it out a lot in the 4th quarter. It just happened that Frye wasn't in at the time. I think I heard Crennel say that they were working on 3 step drops with screens, slants, and dumps for Charlie this pre-season, so he can really get the rhythm down. Don't assume that to mean they wont try to stretch the field more than last year. Don't forget that Frye came in as a starter after halfway through the seaons. I may not agree with their reasons why, but they didn't want charlie to make too many mistakes. Also, I heard they are going to let Charlie roll out a lot more than last year, which makes me happy. Buckzip
With Bentley hurt and now Hallen gone, Charlie will hav a long season. Hopefully he come through unscathed and more experienced.
RACER
i agree. with the brown's great o-line charlie should stay in the pocket, plant his feet, and get sacked about 100 times this year.
GP1
i agree. with the brown's great o-line charlie should stay in the pocket, plant his feet, and get sacked about 100 times this year. Some how, some way he has to do it. It's up to the coaches to call plays that will help him develop and succeed under pressurer while passing from the pocket. Troy Aikman is one of my all time favorite NFL players. He got his butt kicked for a while at Dallas while he stood in the pocket and got killed. The accuracy he developed during this time helped get him to the Hall of Fame. He learned to be poised under pressure and look how his career turned out. The ability to do this will only make Frye a better player in the long run. The question is whether Cleveland fans will want to watch him learn on the job? The other is, do the Browns really see Frye as the QB long term? If not, maybe they will not mind him running around just to make things happen and when they improve their line they can abandon him in place of a pocket passer. The truth is none of us really know what the coaching staff thinks of Frye because we don't get to sit in their meetings behind closed doors. UADavid
He learned to be poised under pressure and look how his career turned out.He was a great qb whose career was shortened by all the injuries he sustained. The 10 concussions he suffered during his 12 year carreer are an awful sacrifice to ask of anyone. Thankfully he still had the sense and the super bowl rings to retire. I hope he doesn't have complications in retirement as a result of those injuries. Had he not won the super bowl, I wonder if he would have retired. I hope the answer would have been yes. Keep on moving Charlie, more in the mold of a John Elway than a Michael Vick.
