Jans fired at BGSU

Recommended Posts

"We legitimately think he's been a great assistant coach at Columbus State, and would be sorry to see him go. But we also believe in letting people get promoted when they deserve it, since that ultimately makes Columbus State a better, more attractive place to work (plus, #karma, etc)."

I hope this #karma thing is for real, we should be rolling in it any day now. ;)

PS I hope BG does hire him.

A person involved in the incident told FOXSportsOhio.com that Jans acted "aggressively and inappropriately" toward at least one female bar patron on the night of March 21.

Jans was asked to leave after a woman slapped him, the source said. At least one of his assistant coaches was involved in getting Jans out of the bar.

Ever been to the bars in BG? I would sue the school for wrongful termination using the "When In Rome" defense.

In the words of George Costanza Was that wrong? Should I not have done that? I tell you, I gotta plead ignorance on this thing, because if anyone had said anything to me at all when I first started here that that sort of thing is frowned upon... you know, cause I've worked in a lot of offices, and I tell you, people do that all the time.

  • 3 weeks later...

As an assistant coach, his Miami Hurricanes whipped the Zips in the Charleston Classic a few months ago.

I hope he runs the same type of offense that Jim Larrañaga runs. That was fun to watch. Maybe I should write, good luck recruiting and getting talent in the Mac. First things first.

Bowling Green is being absolutely dismantled right now. If reports from Verbal Commits and ESPN are true there are currently 7 scholarship players from last year's squad that are transferring out. Add that to the 3 that graduated and that leaves just 3 returning players, one of which took a redshirt last year as a freshman and has yet to play in a college game.

The only 2 returning players with any college experience are a senior PG that avg 4.2pts/gm last year and a sophomore F that avg 0.7pts/gm off the bench. BG had 4 commits for next year but one of them, a JUCO, has asked for a release, bring the number down to 3. That leaves as many as 7 scholarships open.

It should be noted that not all of these transfers have been officially announced yet but I have yet to see anyone deny them either. Its a shame, I though BG had turned the corner this last season.

I did too. They were top of the MAC East for a couple of weeks too. I don't understand why they fired him. The best teams in the MAC this year were 12-6 going into the Tournament, BGSU was 11-7.

Dr Z. seeing how you want to be entertained at Zips athletic events by playing good teams are you hoping this weekend the Steelers, Bengals, Browns and Ravens have the best drafts so you could see 6 entertaining games this fall?

The principle is not comparable. If there were parity in college basketball as in the NFL, there would be no need to wish for a higher level of competition in our league. Divisional games in the NFL are always more entertaining, harder hitting, and meaningful regardless. Wouldn't it be neat (for Zip/Mac fans) to have the lower teams in college basketball get to select the top high school athletes, just as the crummy teams in the NFL are rewarded with top picks year after year?

That's not sufficient for Balsy. Aside from that, why?

And while we're at it, why did Cleveland State fire Kevin Mackey? He was winning 20+ games?

I still can't figure out why Arkansas fired Bobby Petrino. . .
