AKSportsFan
How about this for cRaZy: Akron has a better shot at beating Oklahoma Saturday then Oklahoma has at winning the national title this year. They are drooling all over themselves over there.
Dr Z
Coach Bowden makes an interesting point about our front seven facing the Sooners. Ten interesting thoughts from an Oklahoma writer. This one stuck out to me:7. It appears the Sooners base defense will feature 5 defensive backs. Hopefully in the pass happy Big 12, the Sooners will finally find a defensive alignment the makes sense. I do worry about a team that can line up and play smash mouth football against this base defense. This one might be worth noting too:1. True Freshman Austin Seibert will be handling both field goals and punts.
johnnyzip84
Here's an unintentionally hilarious article on how the Zips match up with the Sooners. This Oklahoma Daily must be the campus newspaper. However, Akron’s best wide receiver — Oklahoma State castoff Tyreek Hill — will be on the bench as he serves his one year penalty for transferring schools. LoyalZIP
No mention of Hundley at all in the running backs category. That's pretty funny.
zipsoutsider
Really good article: "I lost my crimson shades"I especially found the following interesting:"The starting quarterback for OU was a non-scholarship athlete before transferring to OU from Texas Tech. Mayfield was a starter at Tech before eventually losing his position due to the amount of interceptions thrown. Mayfield’s Spring Red/White scrimmage back in April was more evidence of a tendency to throw interceptions. Accuracy is paramount in the Air Raid offense. It is the single most important factor for the offense to be successful."And:"Both of these backs need to be in offenses that feature them with linemen that are in 3-point stances, and charge forward to create holes for running space. In the Air Raid offense, linemen are up in 2-point stances, and back peddle almost every snap."

In the Air Raid offense, linemen are up in 2-point stances, and back peddle almost every snap."I think this is one of the major reasons why the Zips have struggled running the ball recently. It is very difficult to drive block out of a 2-point stance. The 2-point stance is great for basically catching and deflecting defenders away from the quarterback. I realize it is a tradeoff that many spread offenses make for the passing game, but for the run game, it handicaps an offensive lineman like it would handicap a sprinter if you took away his starting blocks. Pressure will be on the kid.

LZIp
Just like its worth mentioning that Mayfield is/was a walk-on, its also worth mentioning that he was the 2013 Big 12 Freshman offensive player of the year and also the first walk-on freshman ever to start a season opener at a BCS school. He has shown that he has talent. The bigger issue appears to be if he can keep it all together.

Z Mixon is going to be special. With Perine and Mixon the Sooners have the best two back tandem in the Stoops era. Neither is the quality of Peterson or Murray currently but the two are a better combo than what they had during the Peterson/Murray days. And that says a lot. His starts, for the most part, were against the dregs of college football. He got hurt and never got back as startrer. They were not going to give him a scholly so he walked off after walking on.He never officially notified the OU staff that he was going to walk on. According to Stoops the day he showed up for the first team meeting/ practice was the first time Stoops had ever met or talked to him. johnnyzip84
It is the school paper. Sorry rag.I realize that most college newspapers are in the same boat. At least The Daily Oklahoman wrote a story about the game that is available to read online. Checking into the UA student paper, I don't see anything more recent than the spring semester. Zipgrad01
I don't want a coach with that attitude.I don't like it either. I would much rather our guys go into the game with the feeling that our staff "expects" them to win. You simply can't make statements like that. pphilfran
Tne Sooner offense is going to be significantly different. The general concensus (right or wrong) is that we will see short, quick timing passes, which should help the green o line. Downfield passss once the d gets sucked in and spread out. Negates the blitz. Not surprising if that plays out.Running game will be less power oriented which will hurt Perine but play into Mixons hand. I know I am gushing all over the Mixon kid and he hasn't seen the field in 2 years. Word is the kid is going to be spectacular. Hope they are right. Those close to him say he can't wait to see the field.Everybody outside of Bama offered him. 7 y/carry in highschool. 20 yards/reception. zipsoutsider
I didn't hear the interview, either, but believe that Bowden has clearly demonstrated his ability to get our kids as ready for big games where we are notable underdogs. Anyone have a link to the thread where they are discussing this?
