Dr Z Posted July 24, 2015 Report Posted July 24, 2015 Nice writeup. "The Zips hope Tommy Brown (Firestone) will be able to realize some of his potential under the tutelage of new offensive line coach Darrell Funk."I root for another team in another league that changed offensive line coaches. The line went from one of the worst, to one of the best in less than a year. I hope this is the case for the Zips this year. A successful line will go a long way in helping many of our offensive struggles. Quote

UA1987 Posted July 27, 2015 Report Posted July 27, 2015 Here's the defense article. Our defense is receiving a lot of praise, and deservedly so, but in the one drive that would have made our season last year (Wagon Wheel stays and bowl eligibility) they came up empty. That's right - Cant's last drive after we scored on a late go ahead gallop by Chisholm. What happened? -Their tight end had a fantastic game - was he Mizell's man or another linebacker (SAM), I don't know, but it seemed as our strong defense had cashed it in before the final whistle. I don't think anyone would have been as disappointed as all were if we had beat Can't and improved to 6 and 6 in 2014. This last drive defined our 2014 season. Do we lack some toughness? When it's cold do we fold? The story is still unfinished and will continue in about 1 month. I'm interested to see what this team is made of in 2015. Quote

I agree that a win over Can't would have done a lot to soothe the sting of the 2014 Zips' unrealized potential. I don't know what the problem was with the defense. If I remember correctly, there was a pass interference call on that last drive that aided the Flashes but yes, after the exhilarating Chisholm run, the defense certainly fell flat on the ensuing drive.Although the defense has been drastically improved over the last 3 years there is still a lot of room to improve as witnessed by the disappearing act on the last drive in Can't and the 55 point debacle in Buffalo. 1 Quote
