Buckzip
It is the norm and it needs to change. I love having the 5th year guys and transfers to fill some holes, but I don't think you can build a sustained program like that. 3-4 of those per class is one thing, half your class of those is too much IMHO. We are not recruiting well enough to rely on high school talent, so we are still going to be heavy on transfers and JUCO's. Look at this years class. It is mostly high school and JUCO kids with absolutely zero offers. That is frightening. We need almost every player to be a diamond in the rough or we lose ground on talent compared to our peers. Not only this, we lose 1, 2 and sometimes 3 years of having a guy in our system with this current situation that we have with all the JUCO's and transfers. I am still not fully convinced that we have guys ready to step in and replace the ones we lose this year. If this is the case recruiting won't improve whatsoever and the trend of bringing in the 1 or 2 year mercenaries continues. And remember folks..our schedule was a cakewalk. We still have only beaten 2 +.500 teams in 4 years. I really don't know where the talent level is on this team. But I am guessing one more year of "more than usual" hole filling But I don't think it will be half of the class And I was referring more to the norm being how quiet the staff is regarding commits and that the list is usually shorter at this point that the other schools ............. But I am still a rookie UA guy LOL
zipsoutsider
We still have 3 verbals. That we know of, right now. Akron can't announce verbals (or say anything related to a recruit) until they sign. We are depending on media and social media. I would be shocked if we didn't have more than 3 verbal at this point. Buckzip
I think what some are missing is that UA doesn't announce the verbals. The players do and then the recruiting sites pick it up. All of the other schools that have verbal commitments are not telling these sites that they have them. The players share with the recruiting people in their area. Do you really think that TB is just great at keeping secrets where no other team in the county is? LOL.
zippy5
https://twitter.com/LankfordJohnson/status/682600661511344128That's a promising recruit. Top 5 of us, Louisville, WKU, App State, and UCF. Good to see. I agree with what most have said, our recruiting hasn't been great so far. Bowden has an unorthodox approach but eventually we need to turn to 4 year guys to steady the progrum

LOL.Yes, it's concerning that this late in the game we still don't have much going on. Especially following the bowl win. Really need to hope that we hit on the transfers we're presumably bringing in and put together a nice class next year

We still have only beaten 2 +.500 teams in 4 years. I really don't know where the talent level is on this team. This is spot on. Weak schedule and we beat who we should but still didn't have any big wins like Toledo, or BG seem to have every year. We had a good season by Akron standards. However, we lose a lot of talent from that team. it isn't like we had a team full of young guys that will be a year better next season. WE have lost the entire OL. We have lost both DT,our best LB, our RB, secondary. We have no one proven to replace any of them. Woodson will be back and hopefully better, but he still needs blockers. The defense was our strength last season and we lost our best players from that team. Marcus and Pittman have been solid, but have underachieved IMHO. Hopefully next season they will shine. Sure, we have Boxen but who else? Another under 500 season will make this bowl win vanish quicker than ice on a Florida highway....(I just made that up)

Zipgrad01
Come on TB, be the closer here....We definitely have a major selling point that he can come right in and start. We don't have anything at rb next year, and i don't want to about Van Edwards. He was a sub par talent at returner. He isn't the answer. And even there, we don't have depth. I say we start poaching some of those Bama 5* recruits that want to play right away..
