I guess Brazilians have a knack for it. Victor Souto told me Ronaldo had one vs Argentina. So I googled it. Here you go.

Yes, the PKs were legit. There actually could have been five PKs. Spartans are a good side but they kept slide tackling in the box. Any slide tackle anywhere runs the risk of being called foul.

One of the PKs was for Handling, which can happen to anyone on any given night. Unlucky but still legit.

Laryeas YC was stupid. :wall: I told him as much after the match. I believe he is now has 4 YCs, with the 5th carrying a 1 match suspension.

It is very possible, maybe even likely, that Richie will be suspended for the UCLA match. :mad_flame:

Then 3 more beyond 5 carries the next 1-game suspension (NCAA rules). Also, unlike in the pros, there is no erasure for 5 consecutive game "good" behavior. Stupid YC's put the Zips at risk. That MUST stop!

there is no reason for him to be so aggressive with a 4-0 lead and only 25 minutes left.

Steve French on AM1350 said it was his 4th yellow. We all remember that he got his 5th yellow last year in the tournament against OSU and if Akron had advanced on PK's, the zips would have had to play Notre Dame without Richie and Victor. Richie had to sit out the VCU game this year due to the 5th yellow in the NCAA game.

Richie's speed is so hard for the other team to deal with....that missing him for a game....would be very tough to overcome. We all know that the MAC teams will target and try to provoke Richie. Our 2 great captains will also need to help the coaches keep the yellow cards down for our players.

This is from someone who's not much of a soccer expert.

I felt like we were not playing well last night vs. most previous games. I think the first penalty kick happened with ZERO shots on goal. We seemed to get somewhat of a lift after that, and improved offensively throughout the course of the game. But, I still think we played a lot of that game without mounting very many good scoring opportunities. MSU was very successful at spending plenty of time in their own offensive end.

You're absolutely right. Pretty much our only quality scoring opportunities were the ones that resulted in a penalty kick. The first one would have been a for sure goal for Richie had he not been tackled. It was nice to see at least one goal come from the run of play with Sam's goal.

The Spartan goalkeeper only made 1 save which means we only had one Shot on goal aside from the 3 PKs and the 1 other goal. Very disappointing. We don't often get outshot on or off goal.

This match Saturday in Kalamazoo very well could be our toughest conference test. I will be making the drive to see the game. Any one else going?

Nate the Great, thanks for supporting the team and making the drive to Kalamazoo. I know that ME87, when I saw him at the Birmingham match, said he was making the drive to Kalamazoo and also going to the game at West Virginia. skip-zip, you analyzed the game very well. coach Embick talks about the intercepted passes given up on the zips web site. The Michigan State coach , on their site, talks about being up 5-0 or 5-1 in shots before Akron got the PK. Coach Embick also talked about poor passing in the first part of the Northern Illinois game. Hopefully, the zips can take their game from minutes 25-60 from the last 2 games....and expand that to 90 minutes when needed.

I quickly went thru box scores. Richie does have 4 yellows (ODU, Penn State, Buffalo and last night). Victor has 3 (St. L, Wake, UAB...UAB was a horrid call by a god awful officiating crew) ; Andrew has 2 (VCU and Buff) ; Goncalo has 2 (G'town and Santa B) ; Nate has 2 (G' Town and St. L). No one else has more than 1.

Do we know if Victor still has to miss the first NCAA game this year since we only played 1 last year and it was a 2 game NCAA ban? Or was that 2 game only for the 2014 season?

A nnumer of items...

1) I am traveling to Kalamazoo; Look forward to seeing Natethegreat and others there.

2) Victor's suspension is done as i understand it from him and staff

3) Victor does indeed have 3 yellows, but unlike the past, his are "good" yellows in my opinion (except the crap call at UAB, as TennZip mentioned). I commend Victor for his maturation this season. Numerous games I've seen the opponents try to light him up with little to no avail.

4) I'd prefer Richie mature and get no more yellows prior to NCAA Tourney. When we enter the tourney, he gets 3 additional to give. I'd like to enter the NCAA Tourney with him having 4 to give. If he gets another, he only ever gets 3 more beyond that. So, if he were to get 1 v UCLA, sit out BG, then get another in the MAC Tourney, he would only have 2 more to give after that. The STUPID YC's HAVE TO STOP!

5) WMU game time changed to 12:00 noon (was 1 pm). Wow, have to leave home earlier.
